looks like any standard US made waste spark external coil. GM, Ford, Dodge, all probably make variants close to that.

example from MSDhttp://www.msdignition.com/coil_blaster_9_8224.htm

is this a setup used in conjunction with a standalone such as electromitive tec3 or just modified to work with stock ecu? im guessing standalone by looking at your setup. if you could use these with the stock ecu i think a write up is in order, i bet quite a few people would be interested in it.

haltech with an MSD DIS4 box to help run it ... It is no mistery to make it work just more $ than most are willing to spend on the ingition

yeah i was considering doing something similar on my rb20, but with megasquirt. but not anymore, im selling it. the sbc s13 will get megasquirt though. i bet your setup (coil setup) makes such a difference. cheaper if something goes bad, too.

Ok so I guess If I would want to use this setup I'd have to buy 6? RBTALLY What all did you buy to get this setup on and running correctly?

Those coils are used in conjunction with a Tec3 standalone. I know that car personally. It was built by a Trinidadian guy down in Ft Lauderdale. Makes 900hp on race gas and sounds friggin' mean. He just sold it recently, however. The car was built by Drag International and they have had excellent results with the Tec3 on RB motors. Nate's setup would probably be cheaper though...

I'm in Boston for now due to work requirements. My hatch is down in Miami safely tucked away in the garage at the moment. There are quite a few excellent shops in S. FL that specialize in RB swaps and performance. Here are the ones I have had personal experience with:

1) Bumble Bee Engineering in Sunrise --Jimmy is the guy who did my wiring and wired up the A/C to work properly. His partner Neil fabbed up my driveshaft. These guys are THE go-to guys for wiring in the area and have at least 2-3 RB's under the knife at a time. Neil has a 550hp RB25 s14 and has a 750hp RB26 sitting on a stand in the corner of the shop. Nice guys all around.

2) JDM Engines off I-595 and University--Farley is the guy who I bought my motor from. Really, really nice guy. He personally dropped off the motorset literally at my front door. He's mainly a Supra guy but he can get pretty much whatever you want from JDM-land.

3) Drag International off I-595 and University--Larry is the owner and proprietor. This place is awesome and has tons of RB, SR, 2jz, and 1jz motors in stock as well as all of that Honda-foolery ish. They have any and everything you could ever want...seats, gauges, exhaust systems, used wheels, etc. For example, my late SII CAS was busted on the motorset I got and Larry had 2 of the ****ers just laying around the shop collecting dust. Gave me a good price too. If I had more bank, I would have just dropped off my s13 and a check and let them handle the whole swap -->They know what they are doing.

4) Premeire Autotechnik --These guys build baller RB swaps. I'm talking 600+hp Rb25's and 1000hp RB26's. If you recall the fuscia s14 with the chromed out 1000hp RB26 that was featured in Modified Mag earlier this year, these guys built the car in conjunction with Drag Int. I've spoken with the guys who run the shop a few times and they are really nice as well.

That's it for now. Sorry if it's off topic but just wanted to post up some resources for the S. FL RB hopefuls.

PS: Avoid a shop called SPEEDLAB at all costs! (See my HG swap nitemare thread)

900hp on an RB20DET...hmmm.

he must have had a custom made counter balance crank, forged internals, and some serious headwork. even then, the block would be questionable...

some questions on this build:

1) what turbo, injectors, oil pump, and water pump.k was he running?

2) who makes aftermarket stuff for RB20's in the US?

3) does he have a dyno printout?

I have Buick Grand National coils on my car ... they have just about the same specs as the Nissan COP setup. My coils were faulty and the wiring for the setup is not difficult at all.

So where does the wiring go on these GM DIS style coils??

Are they on the bottom where the light grey is??

Jegs has a pretty good deal on a set of 3. There $94.99 for a 3 package deal. But what kind of plugs are you guys using??

make a fancy bracket, and a igniter and they work the same as grand national coils. And you can run them with your stock ecu no problem

Yes it plugs into the gray part
meet07 wrote:But what kind of plugs are you guys using??
Well the coils plug into a gm ingitor, so I haven't found a plug for it so I just made my own(if anyone has any information on the 6cyl ignitor that would be helpful)
