Those are just a couple. I guess if your going to be actively driving the car you should opt for the 2 way variety.

what about the nismo 2 way...http://www.store.yahoo.com/pha....html

i want something streetable, not full race like the kaaz... as it will be a daily driver.... all year round...

or would a 1.5 way or HLSD or VLSD be better for my needs

wrong. if you're going to be actively DRIFTING the car, maybe the 2way is best for you. most people prefer the feel of an HLSD or 1.5way for road course. of course, some people do like the push sensation that a 2way gives during cornering under grip conditions. the HLSD is way more streetable than a clutch-type, and 1.5 is more streetable than a 2way.

but if the car is ONLY going to be daily driven, i say screw it and just get a VLSD. if you want the lockup properties of a clutch lsd, be prepared to deal with the consequences!!! (clunking, maintenance, etc., etc.)

either way, good luck!

Hmmm, i've heard alot about this "locking up" thats associated with lsd's, can anyone explain this more to me?? like does it happen to 1.5 or 2 ways? Does this mean that the Differential actually locks up and wont move? or is it referring to somthing else??

No. Lock up as is it locks so that the two rear wheels spin at same or different speeds.

Yeah that's what I meant. Didn't want to say drive the crap out of it on a track so I chose the more passive 'actively'. Wrong choice of words I guess. I've also heard that the NISMO unit is rather tame as far as LSDs go.

For a great article goto http://www.howstuffworks.com and search thier page using 'lsd', they have an excellent article giving general info on how lsd's work and they talk about several types.

If you want to kep it easy streeable I would say hlsd ::shrug::Cusco makes a 1.5 way...hlsds came in the S15 I believe, search and I bet you can find out about what you may need to swap the s15 hlsd in

HEH I dunno what everyone is talkin about, I got the Nismo 14 clutch LSD, and Im freakin lovin it. It makes a lil noiser here and there but I dont mind it my system muffles it out :P. I also drove my friends 240 with the kaaz unit, and it felt the same way no difference, except that it was noisy *** hell heh.

well do you have the "nismo street" diff? nismo SSS and GT PRO are totally awesome. the USA nismo diff that you buy at the nissan dealer (nismo street) is totally gay.

If you can go for an ATS, a little better than kaaz in my opinion.

A little? hehe ATS products are all pretty nice. I'd at least agree they are a little better than kaaz, if not moderately better. Still a bit pricey though. It comes down to skill anyway so ::shrug:: get what you want/can afford. Always that compromise.

im probably just going to rebuild it....im poor.i figured that since the lsd casing was only 81 shipped, id have plenty of money left over to get all the goodies inside...but ive been busy with finals and all so i havent gotten a chance to go to a nissan dealership and check it out...

you know, i havent really reasearched it that much, but do you know where i can take a look at the "nismo spec"? i havent heard about it b4... sounds kinda interesting...

This doesnt make any sense. 2 way is alsways more of a drift set-up for street use you want 1.5 way..Our sponsors have some incredible deals currently on Nismo, Kaaz and Cusco 1.5 ways

from the SPL site:http://www.splparts.com/Clutch vs. Viscous: Viscous LSDs are very low maintenance, but due to the inherent lag and low lockup in the viscous coupling, can be difficult to control on higher hp cars - fish-tailing on power; and almost open diff type of behavior where one wheel is spinning much faster. A clutch-type LSD requires more maintenance, but has much stronger lockup and no lag, which gives more consistent and predictable traction. They are also less streetable due to clutch chatter/lockup at low speeds or low traction conditions. Clutch-type LSDs are preferred for performance driving - road racing, drag racing and drifting.

1 way vs. 2 way: 1 way LSDs lock up only on acceleration, becoming an open diff on deceleration. 2 way LSDs lock up on both acceleration and deceleration, to optimize traction on deceleration; but as a result trail braking is much more tricky/difficult with RWD 2 way clutch-type LSDs, so it favors drivers who try to brake in a straight line. 1.5 way LSDs are a compromise with weaker lockup on deceleration.

lol congrats on about 5 posts in a row =p

I agree, if you weren't interested in drifting I'd suggest helical, but a 1.5way clutch probably won't dissapoint.

streetable/easy to control/grip = helical

less streetable/re-learn corner entry,exits/grip and drift potential = clutch

Hey Palmer how can 2 way LSDs be set up as 1.5 way? Does that mean it can be set up for 1 way use as well?

Not as a 1-way no.

Most of them can be installed either way, when I got my Nismo 1.5 way form Nico sponsor (f0rgot which one), it actually said 2 way on box and had the parts # for the 2 way and I was kinda mad and called, then they told me ,just to tell installer to install as 1.5 way, which is suppsoed ot be very easy ..

but I dont know how ,it was done I was out of town at the time.., Best to ask your vendor like driftfactory.com or 240sxmotoring.com or anyone of them

Not all 2 ways can be installed as 1.5 way and vice versa, so be sure to ask the vendor, before you buy, one of the really hard core new Kaaz models can be used only as a 2 way for example.
