I have an 06 M35X and plan on changing the transaxle, both the front and rear differentials to synthetic. The manual states Nissan D transmission fluid. I do not live near a Infiniti or Nissan dealer and would like to pick up the appropriate fluid at Napa. Is the right fluid type Dexron?? Thank You!

Are you speaking of transmission fluid or differential lubricant?

OK, transaxle confused me.

You need the specific Nissanmatic fluid, but I understand Castrol (?) makes a substitute. I would check with Infiniti to be sure it is acceptable. Otherwise you may void your warranty at best.

Unfortunately, no longer a Nissan or Infiniti, but continuing here at NICO!

The M35 has both a "transmission" fluid that can be replaced (which must be Nissanmatic Fluid J and must be used to avoid voiding the warranty) and a "transfer" fluid (which is Nissanmatic Fluid D or equivalent).

Confusing ... but the Service Manual is clear!
