Hi all,

I am interested in pressure washing out my engine bay and underneath the engine as well.

What products should I use? What do I need to pay attention to when I am using pressure washer?

This is for my 98 maxima.

Thanks,

Heeter

I've used Simple Green to wash off engine compartments. Seems to do a good job. I have not used a pressure washer but would not heavily hit electrical components if you use one.

Purple Power is also very good (cheaper too). You can get it at lowes, walmart, etc

128oz. less than $10

Hey Guys, Thanks for the cleaner ideas.

I had a local shop change my valve cover gaskets, but they left quite an oily mess all around the base of the intake and firewall.

I was thinking of hitting it with a pressure washer, but standing back a ways.

if with a pressure washer you will still need a cleaner, and if you can lower the psi on the P.W.

I suggest that you cover the electrical components/connectors, especailly the alternator, with Aluminum foil. Simple green and the likes usually are sufficient but for stubborn gunk, use Engine Degreaser. You might as well clean the underside of the engine. I always keep the engine compartment clean as it is easier to detect signs of leaks, etc.

I'll stay away fron the power washer unless you can reduce the pressure since you can accidentally spray it on the painted surrface and ruin it. I have a portable steam cleaner but only use as needed. A garden house with the cleaners mentioned above are usually enough for engine cleaning.

If you live in a 'cold' region where road salt is common during winter, a thorough cleaning of the undercarriage each spring is recommended.
