I'm in the market for an sr20det (looks like half the people are in here:) . I'm somewhat of a newbie, forum lurker. I've been in the VW 1.8t camp for the past 2 years and got decent experience with boost from that.

When I go to look at an sr20det engine/transmission during purchase, what kind of visual cues should I look for? Besides the obvious, like a bad compressor wheel in the turbo, or a stick of dynamite sticking out of the block.

The place I'm buying from ensures mileage under 35k and say they do compression tests on all the engines.

Thanks.

Take the 35k with a grain of salt. The engines are getting harder and harder to come by, especially the S13 redtop ones which started the whole craze (to a certain extent).

All three of those places sell motorsets, and entire front clips. They list what they include with their motor packages. Make sure that you get at least that, if not more.
