Im going to look at a 90 240sx this coming wednesday . The seller is asking 700 for the car. Manual transmission. He saiys the car is in "good condition". I told him on not looking for a car that is super reliable because I have plans to do an sr20 swap over the next few years (the car will be in the garage since I have a daily driver already).

What should I be looking for in terms of possible problems with the body? What are the rust prone areas and known problems that these cars have after 13/14 years of use. The seller said over the phone that "there is a tad of rust under the stock spoiler (new trunk lid and or body work could fix it), a ding on the hood (gonna go cf anyway), and the paint could use a freshening up (was thinking of having car resprayed same color anyway to make it look better)". When I asked about the paint issue and what he meant he stated that it was getting "that dull look to it affter a car sits outside for a whole bunch of years" (understandable I guess).

The guy said that if he would like to have restored the car to they way it was before but the money isnt justified with his family and all so he is selling the car. Im going to look on wednesday and if the car checks out, I'll leave him a deposit to hold it until i get back from vacation in 2 weeks. I just want to know what to look for so I'm not clueless while looking at the car.:help

700 bucks seems mega cheap, or a very good deal. for that price make sure everything runs okay, until you do the swap, if its gonna be a couple years, youre going to want to drive it. trust me, it seduces you :D . under the rear spoiler is a rust spot, id be willing to be all of the fastbacks with a spoiler have that. and the water leak, look at the spare tire, and wear goggles. mine also has an air leak coming from somewhere in the back, when i get over 50. The paint will be dull, but not much you can do about that. I cant think of anything else. Good luck with your purchase.
