What to look for in used Pathfinder?

Ok, as some of you may know I am currently in the market for a used vehicle under $5,000. I am looking at a Q45 later today, but I have a need for something with a little more hauling space and towing capacity. Whatever I get will be used as my daily driver and I will keep the G35 as my toy. I need something reliable, low maintenance and relatively easy to work on if I do need maintenance.

What should I look for in a used Pathfinder? Will I even be able to find one in my price range? I am also considering an Xterra, but doubt that I could find one in price range. Any other helpful advice would greatly appreciated. I know very little about the Pathfinder, so please edjumacate me.

for that price you will likely find one in the early 90's which is the WD21 square body style. Manifolds and broken exhaust studs is pretty common to them. have seen several with auto transmission issues due to lack of maint. no other real serious issues other then that.considering your part of the country take a good look at under carriage stay away from heavy rust. the front suspension arms tend to have a problem erroding completely through. only have seen that a couple times and those were from the east coast.
