Hey team,

So I met up with this guy parting out his 1992 Q45 today, said hed give me the Engine (VH45DE) for $300, I tried to contain myself as I almost took a dump in my jeans.

I will check the timing chain guides before I pick it up, he said there is a bottom end knock possibly caused by some bad bearings or something and as soon as he begun hearing it the motor was pulled and replaced with the other VH45DE from his parts car (confirmed).

For placing this into my S13, what else should I pick up from this guys 2 Q45s in his driveway, things are rather cheap and I figure now would be the best time rather than later!

2 Full parts cars, what should I take for my VH45DE - 240SX swap?

Thanks!

Loom, ECU, AFM etc...

The front discs should be nice vented 280mm rotors too, compatible with the Z32/R32 M spec 4pot calipers (that's what I'm using with mine.)

Perhaps score the fuel pump, I've heard they're a decent unit.

Can't think of anything else at the mo.

If you're planning on going with a turbo setup down the road the differential wouldn't be a bad thing to grab. Axles and hubs are Z32 TT style (large and strong).

Fuel pump is a Z32 TT unit so its definitely not a bad thing to grab.

get the R200 vlsd out of it too..

when i parted out my Q, the things that sold fast to the 240 crowd were the rearend/axles, and the brakes. Fuel pump is a good one too.

If you can get a working sunroof switch, good sunvisors, and good front seats... Q45 people will pay ungodly amounts for those.

Well speaking of cheap deals, I have the opportunity to score a Y32 VH41DE for 500 bucks.

Sick Mettler,

Well will the 1992 Q45s VLSD fit on my 240? I dunno if it will?

But thanks for the tips, Im just going to tell him I need everything in the engine bay for $300 or its no deal :P

Anyway, is that bottom end knock something to worry about? What happens when your timing chain goes? could that be it!

The valve stems bend and jam................we see many more failed bearing from poor oil changes than chain problems now that we insist our customer change the guides [or sign a waiver] or find another shop to work on their 90-93 engines.

hopefully a low end or bottom end knock wont be making the whole engine worthless :D

Ill want to rebuild it for a project, so if I can get a cheap set of good pistons and rods as well as some top end parts, if anyone knows a place that sells these for a decent price let me know!

I had to get my moly rings from Hastings, but I found a decent rebuild kit on ebay . (yeah, I know), and a set of Clevite bearings as well.

Total for everything shipped to me was around $300.

Make sure you get Viton valve stem seals whichever way you go.
