Make sure to use silicone with the plastic inserts or you'll be swimming in your car. :D

BTW, the no spoiler look is clean.

I removed mine and used Bondo to fill the holes, then sanded and painted it with Duplicolor touch-up spray paint. It looks pretty good, and it's definitely watertight.

A replacement hatch from a junkyard or recycler that never came with a fin? Pretty cheap and saves you a ton of time. Already available in a factory color even!

wow the many uses of bondo I'm impressed. I've heard of people using bondo to fix their tile floors also. temporary fix? put the spolier back on and wait untill you can afford to have someone weld the holes and refinish it properly. bondo without a sealer on top is porus and will retain water.

I got a Bondo repair kit that came with some adhesive-backed metal screen to back up the holes. Any polyester-based filler like Bondo will soak up water. Even high humidity is bad. That's why as soon as it's cured you have to at least put a few coats of primer on it. The Bondo I have on there now is holding well, and it's a great improvement over my old spoiler which leaks anyway because the bolts are completely rusted out. When I pulled it off, the bolts practically turned to dust...

Approxiametly how much would it cost to have all the holes welded, sanded, refinished, and painted?

then why was do my textbooks from auto body say bondo-glass aka kitty hair is waterproof... every patch welded onto a car should have bondo glass applied before bondo

i dont think that it would cost much to weld metal in the holes and primer it and smooth it all with bondo and stuff if you did it yourself. only that if you are positive you can do it then why not, all it takes is time and the willingness to do it i guess.but i started this thread to ask what to use for a temporary fix.

I spread bondo every dayI put it all over carsI do not use alot of it I metal work almost everything outI do not like to use itI not only is NOT waterproof it is also very very absorbant, it will suck in primer, paint and even sealer if it is applied thick enough.Bondo should never be used thicker than a 1/4 inch thick.

Have you ever done a restoration before where bondo was applied over a hole? probably not b/c the rust from the inside out made the bondo fall off. I'm guess now I'm gonna be told lead isn't porous either and its better b/c its metal too. strip an old car with the original lead still on there. I promise the panels where the lead is is rusted from under the lead.

I like that "my textbooks... say" b/c every car I get in my stalls I go read a book on how to fix. Experience means "I know stuff, learn from it". ok now I'm done with that.

depends on who's doing your work crazydaver. I personally working on a fellow 240 driver I wouldn't charge that much to weld and smooth out holes in a hatch or deck lid... what do you have a hb or coupe? if you have a h/b take the glass out. what color is it? Only some colors would not be good to dead panel if your concerned about color match. price? 75 bucks hook up job to 300 bucks full bend over price depending on who does it.

just fill the holes with play-doh. you can get it in colors to match your car.
