So I have detonation sensor plug still intact on the main engine harness, with the black and white wires, and the detonation sensor itself just has the one white wire before it's cut off. For the black wire, do I just need to ground it somewhere, or does it need to go to a specific wire? Also, I'm guessing your oil pressure sensor wire (yellow w/white stripe) matched up with the wire coming from the SOHC KA-E harness coming off the battery area fuse box, right? I just wanna make sure I wire this stuff up right. Thanks.

The black wire on detonation sensor is a ground, especifically a shielded ground similiar to your RCA wires for sounds system and tv cable at home, it is their to minimize any unwanted and interference signals in the air and generated from the engine.

So yes you need to ground it, and it is usless if you ground it after the sensor, there is a ground shielded wire that goes from the sensor to the ecu, and it is good to have it hooked all the way to the ecu, this way you won't pick up any unwanted noise to falsely trigger the detonation sensor.

What do you mean after the sensor? I only have the white wire actually coming off the sensor, so I just found a scrap plug and wire that matched the Det sensor plug on the main harness, made white match with white, and ran the ground wire on the extra plug to a ground on the chassis. Made sense to me, but maybe I'm an idiot.

If I remember correctly, that white wire, carries two wires inside of it, the signal wire and the shielded ground, try to stip it a bit and see if it is made of two wires (I am refering to the plug that goes on the detonation sensor.

or you can do what you have done already and keep monitoring your ecu to see if it gets any detonation sensor codes, If you don't get it, then your are fine.
