The Q-Boat is getting a new alternator - and there wasn't any core charge for the old one, so I'm keeping it.

Any ideas on what to do with it?

Slap some new bearings and brushes on it and keep it as a spare?

Mate it with a cheap Chinese engine to make a battery charger/welder?

Wind generator?

My old alternator worked fine. I just found the bearings to be a bit noisy for making some long haul trip someday. I kept the alternator. I plan to get it serviced with new bearings and keep it as a spare.

The bearings were actually available from Infiniti separately back in the late 90s. They came in really old looking boxes wrapped in oily paper with Japanese writing on it. I rebuilt the alternator on my first Q with new bearings and the diode board (can't remember the correct name at the moment) only to have a stator fail about a year later - causing me to just get a remanufactured unit. The brushes had tons of life left with a little over 100K in service.

I think I'd just toss it in a corner, so that if the economic apocalypse comes you might get lucky and be able to cobble one good one together out of two or three if they failed differently. :D

I have 3 old [removed from trashed Q's] units waiting for the day they might be needed.

Very off topic:
Looking for a 91-93 18mm oem 5 speed only rear sway bar for a G20 all I find are 16.5 mm that I currently have.

By accident I parked next to another G20 full of 20's girls and the boy driver. With my 16" [2002] oem wheels, wing, etc [95 G20T green black leather racing seats].............and was told I can get a lot of dates with my car, I'm 63 and that has never happened with my Q45.

They're still listed in the Infiniti Parts USA online catalog - around 22 bucks apiece.
