So I read a little while back on hese forums about maybe needing a new cat. so I was shopping around casually for a high flow one.But just the other day my emmisions light turned on so I figured I had better hurry up on it. I took imy 240 to the local Nissan mechanic and he said go to the electrical specialists. The electical specialist said that Nissans are a pain in the asz to work on because of the diagnostic commputers they have to be analized with only use 2 blinking lights. And get this, he says: "If the Japanese electronics ever catch up with the Americans it will be great" and then goes on to talk about his ford... so I left...however, the light just turned off again (?) right after I talked with him...

Is there anything I can do?

Is it the fuel mixture or the cat?

I got like 16 mpg last tank but its really cold here and I have to let it warm up...

Well, any advice would be great.

Your baby was scared that you may let a ford freak work on her and decided to shape up.

Whatever any mechanic says anywhere usually has an EXTREME bias. You have to figure that most people that work on cars arent genius's(though we love them anyways, someof us are those guys) and since most of them learn on american cars they shy away from anything different. Try explaining that an SR20DE has a turbo added to it in japan to a Nissan Parts rep and they'll think youve gone crazy.

I dont know why a nissan mech couldnt help you, thats their job. Unless it wasnt a dealer mech.

usually, it is a combination of rust, cabon deposits, and un burned fuel sitting on the screens in the cat.

yeah, all the mechanics i've gone to are extremely biased, and when you try to question their diagnosis, they look at you weird.i had my mechanic tell me my oil pan was leaking, my diff was leaking, and i was burning oil (i can't believed he thought the egg smell = burning oil)i had the engine steamcleaned, and the undercarriage, and upon him asking me if anything still leaked. i was happy to inform him..NO!:evilhaha

my catalytic converter needs to GO!(rubs hands together like mr.burns)
