no he is saying run the pipe through the cat, after he guts it
i wouldn't even waste my time doing this because it really shouldnt make that much of a difference in sound or power from a testpipe-style cat, or a gutted one. the only advanteage you are making is now you have a test-pipe that appears to be a cat, because its illegal to remove a functioning cat from a car
i would buy an exhaust and a testpipe, easily done for 300 bones at a local shop.
Or if you are particularily ingeneous you can try this. i would do it but i dont have the money, even though its well under 100 dollars
mr gasket sells a 2in manual cut out for 42 or 46 bucks. its a straight 2in pipe with another pipe coming off at an angle, and it have a valve/cutout that is operated by a lever-like thing. Now combine this with a 2in test pipe, and then just add a turn down for the exhaust exit.
the only draw back is i would rather have a 3in, but i cant find an affordable manual one. all seem to be electric and in the 150+ range. These are mostly muscle items, but even APEXi makes an electric one. However, APEXi's is not the same, its basicly a pipe with the cutout in your testpipe, so it only restricts overall exhaust gas flow. However for less than 80s and a little welding you can have a testpipe that either goes to a stock exhaust, or nothing at all...
i just want someone to do it, or send me 80 dollars so i can make mine....
