What to do if EGT gauge sensor wire lost?

I got a Greddy exhaust gas temperature gauge with my swap and it came with the sensor already installed in the manifold and the gauge with the short 2ft extension, but not the wire that connects the sensor to the gauge. Do they sell those separately so I don't have to buy a whole other gauge? Is there a such thing? What are my options?

This is what I have, what connects to that?

I'm not exactly sure about this particular sensor but most EGT sensors wire into a thermocouple that translates the signal from the sensor into a 0-5V signal that can be sent to a gauge. Unless the gauge has a thermocouple built into it, you'll need to get a thermocouple compatible with the gauge. I'd contact the person you bought the gauge from and see if he has it or look the gauge up on Greddy's website to see what it comes with in the package.

Seems like I'm following you around today hahaha

A thermocouple is the egt sensor. Thermocouple probe is made up of two dissimilar metals and when exposed to heat it in turn generates voltage which is read by the gauge etc etc. RTD egt sensors have that box you're talking about though. Dunno if the OP's is an RTD type but this may be the harness she's looking for..http://www.clubrsx.com/cr/GRE-16401302.html

Maybe need the brain too?http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/greddy_egt/

oh yah you're right. It has been a while since I installed mine, but I had to buy a simple little electrical device so I could log the EGT signal directly from the probe I have. I am having a hard time finding what it was called, but I will find it tonight and hopefully post a link to what I'm talking about. I'm guessing that it is incorporated into the Greddy datalink box shown in the instructions linked in the post above. That box could also simply provide power to the gauge and not have anything to do with the signal voltage.

hmmm, I had a feeling it was wishful thinking that it only needed a wire. Thought it was a bit strange the gauge could read directly from the probe. Thanks for the replies

so let me clarify...I only have the probe and the gauge, not the box that interfaces between them. That said, can I get the box and any other gear that is needed to make the gauge work standalone? It is probably a dead end trying to get anything from the previous owner

OK I found what I was after. It is a "thermocouple adapter" that is an interface between K-type thermocouple probes and a logger that requires a 0-5V input. It has 5 wires: 12V power, ground, thermocouple R, thermocouple Y, and 0-5V output.

I don't know if the Greddy gauge operates off of a 0-5V analog input but I'm assuming it is simply a volt meter and it does not have the thermocouple adapter built in. I'm guessing it is in the datalink box. BUT I'm very interested in seeing if using a thermocouple adapter will work for you instead of trying to buy an expensive Greddy piece of electronics.

I will post a link later because right now I am battling some f**king spyware.
