it's called a tune up and fixing what's broken on your ride first. You'll quickly find that fixing what's broken on an old car will be time consuming and gets real expensive real fast.

after you replace all those worn out old parts, work on suspension- then save up for any power upgrades.

go spend about 200 bucks on tuning it up..changing fliuds..then just get to know your car, i alwasy find somthign else that i need to do..you'll find little things here and there on the forum that can help keep you busy until your ready to put some money into it

and if the price is right, i'll sell mine, im thinking at looking for a coupe

Absolutely agree, do a good tune up, then get a set of nice suspension, not some entry level coilovers that costs sub $1,000. if you do go sub 1,000 go with some lowering springs and a nice set of tokico's or kybs. Then power, then looks. Unless you want to have a car that supposedly looks fast but get's owned by 1970 rabbits driven by old granny's all day coz your car only runs on 2 cylinders.

A budget would be nice or I might just suggest a 13B rotary swap. . Seriously I need to know what budget you are on. But I would definitely get everything thoroughly inspected and running right. Tying up loose ends during a swap can be time consuming and expensive. I did my SR swap immediately after I chucked the KA24 as far as possible Jk no really jk dont flame me please

should i get the engine first though then get the tune-up? so engine if a first priority... that is after i get my 240... i had one before but old granny ran a redlight, and yea...... the reason i asked that question is because i was going to paint it while the engine is out if the car.. and was thinking that i could just get the body style i want and painted while the engine bay was clear. but i guess i can still paint it when i get the engine sway... just get a color and get extra paint for aftermarket body parts.i was planning on decking it out.. i have 1500 saved... for the car... and i was going to either buy the front end conv. or the engine. still open for opinions.thanks for replies

make it run and operate decenthandlingperformancethen looks..

thats how it should go, mix it up here and there, but you need to make it be able to handle the power before you add it..looks can come last, if your gonna end up d!ck around with aftermarket bumpers..etc etc..get everything painted together so you can have it molded and aligned correctly so it doesn't look like you stuck it on there with 3m tape

1500 woudl get you quality conversion parts..you'll be looking for at least 2g's for a full motor swap if you do the labor yourself

yeah sorry to say buddy, but I guess you haven't looked at the long list of stuff that goes bad on these cars after time. A tune up will just keep the mileage bearable and the engine running well before you're able to save up enough cash to do exactly what you want to do when it's time to do it. One of the things many folks are just beginning to get around to as it seems is to pay attention to the lower control arm ball joints. They can get pretty pricey, bushing kits are cheap but take alot of time to do, wiring problems unless you're sniffing them out yourself get expensive to fix, alternators and starters blow out, chains need replacing, and the list goes on and on. When I first bought my 40 which was almost 7+ years ago, I had originally intended to do an SR as well. That didn't happen till about 4 years ago. So figure it took me about 3+ years since I had the car to actually get around to having everything satisfactory enough for me to do the engine swap. It's not something that you should take lightly either, it's expensive and the cost of a swap can do alot of repairs that you'll need. One other major repair that most people seem to overlook are wheel bearings. There's alot of stuff along the way that'll make your experience with the 40 alot more bearable. A tune up and freshening of other busted and old parts will make the experience much more rewarding without you wanting to end yourself.

You already know what you going to do, and instead of writing out this long drawn out cordial list of things you could do I will say this: Do some homework;

GET A CAR FIRST!

Good luck; make a work log; this post isn't going very far.

I don't mean to be a jerk, but there doesn't seem to be any research done here, although I may be wrong.

Do what everyone here has said.

GET A CARFIX IT!REPLACE THE RUBBER STUFFSUSPENSIONENGINETHEN go make a rice'o'matic 5000(thats my plan atleast)~Nick
