Hey all,

I've only had my car since December '07 but I've already noticed that I have 3 rock chips / door dings in the paint. What are the proper way to fix these?

Rock chips: Get some touch-up paint, not the spray but in a little bottle. Try to find some paper matches (the old kind in the folding packet that you used to get for free) Use these as applicators for the paint. Do not thin the paint, you want it as thick as in the bottle. What you want to do is build up layers of paint to fill in the void left by the chip, this can take time especially in your climate, but once you do and it's fully dry get some 120, 600 and 1000+grit wet/dry sand paper for the final color sanding(Or as you guys say Colour) sand in a very small diameter about 1 inch or 2 centimeters. You need to sand the new paint lightly to level with the original paint. When you've done that use some polishing compound apply per directions on the can or bottle and buff to a beautiful shine! The first one will be scary, but once you've done it you'll be a seasoned pro.

Dings: I used to have a paintless dent removal guy come and do them for me, the guy would do a good job and only the very worst dings still barely showed if you looked real hard, not cheap but cheaper than if I would have gone and fixed it the conventional way and still had to touch-up the door or shoot the whole door if it was a metallic.

Hope this helps, also do a Google search and you'll probably find photos as well. Cheers!
