Well I am on the highway the other day and I can hear my right front brake rubbing as if I have a warped rotor. Since 3k miles ago I did the brakes I figured I screwed something up but when I went to take the wheel off I noticed one of my wheel studs sheared off and the wheel was loose causing the rotos to be loose and rub. I have no idea how or when I broke it but I am not sure what to do. Should I get a broken screw remover bit and try to remove it myself? Are the studs just screwed in or are they pressed in? Should I just take it somewhere and get it fixed?

Great thanks. I am real paranoid now driving untill I fix it because I had a wheel fall off once while I was driving my old bug. Its not a good experience. What kind of shop should I look for? One of those brake, tire, and suspensions places?

Yes, that is exactly where you would take it. It should be a fairly quick and easy job. Shouldn't cost an arm and a leg either.

If you did the breaks yourself changing a wheel stud is no more difficult. They are pressed in but can be knocked out with hammer and punch. And to put the new one in just stick it in the hole and put the lug nut on and tighten until it pulls the stud back into the hub. The hardest part would be takeing the hub off if you have to. You may be able to change it with hub on car if you can find a place in the backing plate to insert it back into hub.

I had the same problem on an old eclipse I had. The car never had problems until I had to change a flat tire, and i broke 2 of 4 studs on one wheel and 3 on the other. The prevous owner must have waaaay over torqued them. I had to buy new studs (cheap) and then hammer the old studs out. I knew next to nothing about cars at the time, so it took a day or two to figure out, but i eventually got it. I used a hammer as well.

I wouldnt pay someone to do it for me. that just seems like a waste of money. take your wheel off, take the caliper and rotor off, and hammer it out, but the tricky part is getting it back in. you can use a breaker bar and 2 lug nuts that should pull it through. its a wierd process, not sure why it works, but it worked for me.
