Newbie here, thanks for reading.

I'm considering buying a used 2004 G35 with about 120k miles priced at $13k (going to talk it down to $11k or lower).

Having never owned a G35 before, I'm reaching out to the well informed members of this board for some insight when buying a used G35. Here are some of my questions:

* What are some common maintenance issues (if any)?
* Is there some indication that may require a major repair?
* Is 120k miles acceptable mileage?

I've search elsewhere to get some of this information but came up empty. Of course, if there's a previous post that addresses some of these question, please kindly redirect.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to NICO!

Common issues in 03-04s include a faulty head deck (stereo) which shares a circuit board with the AC. Search the boards, you'll find plenty of posts. For me, I would not buy a vehicle with over 100k...but have it inspected by a reputable shop prior to purchase.

You will need to replace plugs and ALL Fluids, check the brakes and all electronics.

Finally, if it's a 6MT, check clutch/transmission.

Good luck! My advice is to purchase the newest year you can afford.

Check the records with Infiniti if possible to see if it's had proper maintenance or any recalls fixed. Joe covered the norm with the car. '03 had a front tire feathering issue but I think that was resolved before the '04's. 120k on a properly maintained VQ motor is fine but they are known to have oil blow-by issues with some being bad enough to warrant engine replacement. Just check the oil levels and if the previous owners had it serviced at Infiniti and you get the records see if they list it being low on oil for oil changes.

Can you swap in a later year VQ into the 03-04 G35? Just wondering because I was also looking at picking up a G35 (with high miles).

How much is it to swap to a newer VQ? I'd imagine not cheap. Just wondering if it'd be better spent on a new model altogether?

Not really sure, the best bet is to stay with a similar year motor.
