I know he doesnt want one but a C5 is by far the best bang for your buck. Even at that price, an 01 Z06 is within reach.

A corvette, as stated earlier, is a car that people that own Zs, porsches, and so on aspire to have some day...

I never have met a Porsche owner who wants to step down to a Vette.

I have met quite a few Vette owners who would like to step up to a Porsche, however.

In your shoes, my choices would be (in no particular order):

2003/4 M45 (oh, wait, I already have one! )early to mid- 90's Acura NSX2004+ Infiniti G35 Coupemid-90's Nissan 300ZX TT2004+ Nissan 350Z

with the appropriate year to fit the budget.

Hands down I would take a vette over a Porsche. Way more car when compared dollar to dollar. Thats just me though.

Vette=middle age, conservative, balding, too much money and not enough brains--like a McMansion with white rugs and gold everywhere. These are track cars baby!Older Porsche=class, eclectic, iconoclast, much more Q45ish, more daily driverish with class!

I test drove a 350Z today...not for me. Kinda plasticy feeling, cheap feeling, very good handling, not enough power for what it should be able to do. I can take the lower power in an older Porsche...it seems fitting. The 350Z is a wannabee car. It was OK through, I drove the auto and the stick---forget the auto---yuck!!!

The NSX is looking like a great idea--must drive it.

Any other ideas?

Peter

Not anymore. Drive one!!

Other ideas, maybe an M3 or somthing like that. A nice 540 with a 6 speed. Z3 roadsters can be had cheap as well. Maybe an older MB AMG of some kind.

Meet the staff of C&D, who ranked the new Vette ahead of the 911 by a hair. The 911 has been slowly perfected, but the Corvette has enjoyed six major revolutions in style and performance. The 911 is a masterpiece, but like the NSX, time is eroding its relevance ever so slightly.

Brian, thats like saying that youd want to trade all 3 of your Qs in for 3 older lexus LS400s....

Some people just like what they like, it may not be the best.... hell, thats all of us with our old Qs are.....

An M3 is a great IDEA. I see 1999s with 70 to 90 for under 20K. Always liked them in white. Funny, I like the old boxy ones too.

You know, I would look at what 450ZXTT does for a kick *** car. Should be able to happen for $25K.

Wish we had more updates from him about longevity.

Not at all! Old Q are better than old LS, hands down.

An all out balls to the walls Z32TT should be attainable for your $25k budget.

You should also try to find an SC'ed or turbo'ed Z33 for the heck of it.

I guess if posed with the decision of $25k and a sport-y car, I'd have a hard time choosing, but I'm limited by needing something with a back seat .

Brian, in case your wondering, i talk to him fairly regularly... heres what hes running

- stock 90 engine with about 130k on the clock, obviously updated guides- 10lbs of boost on stock motor- JWT boost map

Hes been running this setup for about 8 months, and drives the car all over the place. he drove 1 hour each way to come to the NOPI show... He thinks that he is also getting roughly 23MPG on the highway!!!!!!! So far his setup is flawless, it is COMPLETELY reliable...

Newer car: 350Z/G35, complete with warranty and everything. Add a S/C if you need more power. But thats pushing the budget

Older car: NSX or E36 M3

These are the 3 cars I'd be looking at if I had $25k to spend.

The late 90's M3s are some of the best handling cars on the road (stock set-up)! Having owned one of these and two NSXs, I would highly recommend that you search for either one.

The M3 is more practica due to its back seat and larger trunk, but the design and timeless beauty of the NSX is hard to beat.

Good luck and keep us informed of what you decide to buy...

How about a lightly-used, supercharged S2000?

People are pushing more than 300rwhp on those reliably, boost from idle, and it's a light car.

I'll take mine with an OEM hardtop please.

Thye more I think about this the more I want something that few others have.

I got this off a BMW board...looks very cool, I asked for pics.

<<1990 M3 WBSAK0303LAE33486 Zinnoberrot/tan leather, 57k miles, original paint except rear wing. Multiple concours winner, SIGMiesterÕs choice. Evo sills, steering wheel, valve cover and plenum. Korman Roadsport suspension. Korman 225 hp pkg. Five 17" BBS RK2s with new Kumhos, Supersprint exhaust, RF Kenwood CD, new a/c, freshly tuned, new fluids. Always zymšled, Leatheriqued, covered and garaged, perfect original wheels with new Dunlops also available. BavAuto car and windshield covers, extra mats, etc. $26,500. >>

The Old M3 is an "E30" produced from 86 to 90. They are pricy but very very unique and retro cool looking.

Hmmmmmmm.

Great feed back. I wonder how sudden the onset of boost is? No intercooler?

Yeah hes got a nice front mount intercooler.. Not sure on the size, but it takes up a lot of the front opening on the Z.....

He said boost comes on at about 1200 RPM at the very latest, and likely reaches full boost before 2500 RPM, he said that there is literally no lag... He said that he always launches the car like you normally would from a stop and then go form there..... Runs 2 stock Z32 turbos I think (T28 BB turbos)!!

its hard to say when max boost of 10 lbs occurs since he doesnt have a boost gauge i dont think.. maybe im thinking boost controller, but when i sat in the car, i dont recall a boost gauge... He is just running the 10lb springs

I'm throwing out low end torque as a requirement, sooo two favs are1967-68 912 1970 to 74 911

God damn I like the look of these light body early 911s!!!!

I saw a real cool Kharman G. a couple week agos...totally restored, with soft mods. So this will also be on the short list.
