huge. even with a drop you'll still have a solid 1.5-2" gap

I wouldn't say that there would be a huge gap with 18s... I mean, there's not even that big of a gap in this picture and the car still has stock wheels/tires.

With that being said, I'm not sure what size would be best. I'd try to get a 40 or 45 series tire to look best, 50 might be too big and anything smaller than 40 starts to look like a rubber band wrapped around your wheel.

Dzephyr is very correct.

My advice is to just measure! You can do 18s with a big side wall, or 19s with a smaller side wall and so forth. If you're trying to eliminate wheel gap without running a large side wall, I'd recommend getting coilovers and looking into getting an appropriate tire size.

Here's my fender clearance in the rear:

Once you measure your wheel gap you'll be able to determine what you need to do.

With my stock 16"s and eibach drop i only have 1.5" in the rear and 2" in the front for fender gap. So if i get 245/45/18 i should have less than that right?

245/45/18 is only .5" taller than stock tires, so you'll close the fender gap by 0.25".

i wouldn't recommend trying to fill your fender gap by just getting bigger tires. if you start trying to get bigger tires than stock, you start to mess with your spedometer and ABS.

Jesus, Alex, I'd be afraid to go on the road like that.

I think 225/50/18 is your best bet for that width rim.

^This. However, does anyone know of a way to re-program the tire diameter?

Get one of these bad-boys, and file the tire down until you get it to the right diameter. Grab a 30 pack because it might take a while. Don't go too deep, you still want to keep some rubber on there for the next step. Once you have filed it down to the right diameter, you'll probably be left with little tread left.

So you don't go slip sliding all over the road in your slicks, use one of these to jab at the tire and gouge some holes to give it some grip.

In all seriousness, you can't reprogram it. The speedometer and odometer are analog (someone correct me if I'm wrong). They are based on the number of rotations your tire makes. If you have a smaller tire, you have a smaller circumference. That means you won't go as far in one rotation. That translates to a speedometer and odometer reading that is higher than reality. If you have a larger tire, you'll go farther in one rotation; speedometer and odometer readings will be too low. Usually a difference of the overall diameter of less than 0.3" is okay. There are threads dedicated to it. Check out this calculator: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html. The stock tire size is 215/55/17 by the way.
