Does anyone know what the thread is for the oil pressure sensor? I'm talking about right above the oil pan on the driver's side. It looks like it's 1/8" pipe fine thread (27). Is this true?

How do I tap it without getting metal in there? I was going to get a q-tip after I tap it and run it for a second so the oil would flush out any metal. Sound OK?

I knocked the sender out and now I can't thread it back in.

DON'T TRY TO TAP IT UNTIL YOU READ THIS!!!!!

It is NOT 1/8" NPT threads. It's 1/8" BSPT. Close, but not quite the same.

If the threads are messed up, I highly doubt you are going to find an 1/8" BSPT tap at the hardware store. You'll probably have to order something off the internet.

We get what you mean, because we have this engine, too, but just an FYI, this can get quite confusing in the context of cars and engines which were manufactured in both left and right hand drive versions, even without taking into account the fact that you have it in a completely differents manufacturer's chassis from 30 years before, which was *ALSO* manufactured in both left and right hand drive versions... :)

PS.: for most of us, the oil pressure switch is actually on the "passenger's side". ;)

I wouldn't dare, what you are attempting, with an assembled, running engine I just got up and running fine, but I get that you had your engine apart and not running for quite enough to not want to tear it down all over again.

:) It;s actually on the passenger side on mine, too. I was tired last night.

Thanks for that, Ryan. I don't suppose I could re-tap it American and then put a plug in it? I have a mechanical pressure gauge.

What is the safe way to do this?

Thanks

Are you sure the thread of the whole is screwed-up or is it that of the sensor. Usually, it is the aluminum threads that take the brunt of the destruction when cross-threading, instead of the steel threads.

I'll double check tonight. Can I just rethread it to NPT? I've been reading hat his is OK.

If I do have to tap it, how do I avoid getting metal in there?

Thanks

Glowshift direct has the 1/8 BSPT male to 1/8 NPT female adapter to use for that port. I have it on my car and use it with my autometer oil pressure sending unit. Works great!
