Just the other night, my low-on-gas indicator light did NOT indicate to me that i was THAT low on petrol although the needle read a few ticks above "E"... therefore, I went about my business and continued to drive without stopping for gas. Typically, I fill up after having seen the low indicator light.
I actually ran out of gas on the road (you can laugh now) which doesn't happen TOO often these days. BUT, that didn't stop me from making it to a gas station about 2 miles away... as I was struggling/driving between 20-30 mph (because my car would not go any faster) it looked as though I was warming up my tires before the start of a nascar event. When you're extremely low on gas I heard swerving the car back and forth (from left to right) aids in forcing the remaining gas into the engine. Believe me, it did help or it seemed to help. Because, despite the stuttering of my engine (it felt like my spark plug wires were arching), I made it to the next gas station.
Question for a '92 240SX SE (~87,000 miles):: Is it normal for the low gas indicator light to only function when it feels like functioning... get my drift?? any relevant answers appreciated.. yo thanx in advance!
