What is the highest boost you can run on an SR20DET (S13,14) with stock internals.

Thanx.

Safely 15psi on a redtop(S13) and blacktop(S14) and 15-18psi on a blacktop S15 engine.

You can go higher than that....

I've heard of as high as 22psi with race gas on a SR20DE-T (9.5:1 compression). So I KNOW a SR20DET can do atleast that.

Although, you did say safely. And I don't gauruntee 22psi is safe :)

15psi seems fair for a stock engine. Im sure if you add a FMIC you can boost to 18-19psi if you dont abuse your engine. What is the weakest link in the SR20DET under high boost on stock internals. Rods? Bearings? Head Components? Head Gasket?

Id like to know some trouble areas that I could beef up if i intend to boost 15-18psi, without doing a complete overhaul and rebuild (Which I have priced to be over $3000 in parts for an SR20DET)

Does the Factory SR20DET Turbo Manifold Footprint match up to Garrett or Turbonetics turbos? Would I need an Adapter plate fabbed?

There really is no weak link in an SR motor. I supposed the *weakest* link though is probably the bearings.

I'm telling u now, that if you got it tuned right, 18psi on stock internals is NOT going to be a problem. Especially with a FMIC.

AFAIK, the Garrett and Turbonetics flanges are the same, aren't they? In either case, Nissan's use Garrett turbos from the factory, so Garrett's will work.

EZCheese15.... thank you for your input. I am new to the Nissan game but very interested in the potential of the SR. My friend has an IS300 (2JZ-GE) and is getting 570rwhp on all stock internals at 26psi! So i figure an SR20DET could also get fairly good numbers if tuned right.

I have been running 20psi for a while and on stock internals. i've heard the stock headgasket doesn't like anything more then 15psi. i've not had any problems thus far with the stocker either.i'm not so sure i'm wanting to run more then 20psi on the stock head gasket though....maybe i'll try 23psi and see what breaks.shaun

I would think that you could run higher boost more safely if the timing was dialed back a few degrees. Has anyone gone with this approach? How did it work?

I really hope your not talking stock internals with the stock turbo or fuel system.

Stock turbo is dead to the world at around 12-14psi, and the fuel system is taking a crap at right about 14. Then the stock MAF dies at around 245rwhp (16psi or so).

All those numbers are taking into consideration a big FMIC and a 3in downpipe and exhaust. In stock form you'll be detonating like a champ at around 12 on a hot day.

With proper upgrades (fuel injectors, fuel pump, turbo, and MAF) I think you could run 20psi if you were VERY carefull with your timing and fuel maps. People have run more on race gas, or for short times, but they don't last too long......

that's my .02

Yeah, I wasn't talking stock turbo either. I said stock "internals" and a turbo is external :)

The original poster said nothing of upgrades such as IC, fuel, or turbo.

Judgeing by most of the post's on this topic I assumed that he was about stock, and felt it necessary to point out to him that if he had the impression he could do that with no upgrades he's mistaken.

anyhow,

later

That may be true, but the original post also simply asked what the highest amount of boost you can run on stock internals was. it didn't say stock externals.
