Today i did some minor work on my ca18det but now some thing is wrong.

All i did was remove the heat sheald and replaced stock intercooler piping with some bigger custom intercooler piping. but when i started it up it would rev up and then sputter to the point that it almost cuts off and then rev again this happened every time until it cut off. when i tried to drive it it made a top speed of 5 km/h and was choking the hold time.

What could be causing this?

I didn't think that it would be a big deal changing piping because even if it had a few leaks it wouldnt matter because all it does is suck in air anyway right? Also what exactly is the purpose for the heat sheald it isn't neccesary right and moving it wouldn't do any harm or good for my proformance right?

Finally does changing my stock intercooler piping to a bigger piping hurt or help the proformance of the ca18det?

with the stock turbo, prolly creats more lag, but check for boost leak, sounds like its def it, or maybe maf?

no NO no NO no! even leaks as small as a pinhole can make a world of difference on a car that uses a maf! you're getting more air at idle (vaccum sucks it in) than the ECU thinks it has, and under boost, you're loosing air that the ECU thinks is there! fix those leaks immediatly or else your car is gonna run like crap.

your driveablility issues are completely because of the vaccum/boost leak you have. fix that, and you should be good. Bigger intercooler piping will be helpful to a point... too big and you have too much of a pressurized area to fill, but just slightly bigger than stock and fewer curves would help response. I noticed a difference when I put Trust piping on my CA

the heatshield doesn't matter. We have to remove them on LHD cars because it hits the steering shaft, and I've never heard of anyone having issues with it.

It sounds like you didn't connect the piping to the throttle body! Alternatively, go ahead and make sure you didn't remove any grounds on the exhaust side of the engine.

anyone know where I can get like two whole pipes that would go straight from the intercooler to the turbo and the other one for the vaccum

I had someone else put in my piping and they have abunch of short pipes connected with rubber hose and clamps and it looks like a junk yard car.

I can't get any custom pipes made because no one in the bahamas has a pipe bending machine.Someone please help my engine bay turn back into the place my ca18det is instead of a garbage.

you can just buy an intercooler piping kit off taka taira or yahoo japan or occasionally ebay, but they are expensive. I'd say just order some mandrel bends and get them welded, or cut short pieces of piping to form your bends.the problem defintetly sounds like a boost like.BTW my stock heatshield with stock turbo clears my steering shaft just fine.
