Are you reving it in neutral and then dropping it in drive? I hope not.
And no, the 16 inch tires with the taller sidewall will do better for drag. You can actually drop them down lower than 28. Probably around 20 psi.
You need to be launching so that you are barely breaking the tires loose. If that means less gas when starting then give it less gas. Wheel spin is hurting your time.
What were your 60' times? With wheel spin for 2 or 3 car lengths I bet they were 2.6 seconds or worse. You need to get the 60' time down to about 2.0 seconds for a rwd car on street tires and about 2.2 second 60' for a fwd on street tires. It just takes practice.
The Grand Prix GTis just a little lighter than the J30 and the GTP is just over the J30 according to edmunds.com. Did you have the GT or the GTP?
