I keep telling myself I'm not going to buy another Q, I'm not going to buy another Q......and then a deal too good to pass up comes along and I'm buying another Q.
This one may be a keeper. It's a 90Q base with 114k miles. Black exterior with gray interior and two tone gray/black doors. Clearcoat is peeling bad. It drives straight and brakes straight. It looks like it was well taken care of until the last couple of years of its life.
It's got 2 dead injectors and doesn't run worth a darn but everything in the car works including the AC display, speakers and 10 disk CD. The sunroof wasn't closing and I fixed that today just by cleaning and lubing the tracks. About the only things wrong other than an engine running on 6 cylinders are a broken glovebox hinge and a tear in the driver's seat and center armrest.
(For the local guys this was advertised as a 91Q on Craigslist for $600 in Garden Valley)
The PO had a junkyard fuelrail put in along with knock sensors and said it came back from the shop running worse than when he took it in. I suspect a hose or two are cracked as the PO mentioned that he chose not to replace brittle hoses even though his mechanic suggested it. CEL is on and I haven't pulled codes yet.
I thought I would try and bring this Q back to life rather than remove all its vital organs (parts) and send it to its grave. I'll be pulling the plenum off soon to replace injectors and inspect for previous mechanic damage. I've been wanting to get a 90Q and if I can fix the engine miss I'm going to keep this one as my toy. Not bad for $500.
Clearcoat is peeling bad and it needs a good cleaning. The PO lived 1 1/2 miles up an unpaved dirt (muddy) road. It's going to take a lot of detailing to get al the dirt off.
You can see the thick layer of dust on the interior. I cleaned it up this afternoon (too late to take pics) and it came out looking like new. The two tone (gray/black) door panels are very nice and in perfect condition. There's one tear on the drivers seat but I've got gray leather from another part out to patch it.
The PO said all the connections were cleaned during the KS replacement. This is the connector for injector #1- green with corrosion. The MAF, CAS and TPS weren't quite as bad but had corrosion also. She runs better just cleaning up the few connectors I've done so far. It won't hurt to get under the plenum and clean all the connectors. I'll have it runnig like new soon.
