What the heck is this? (intercooler piping)

On the picture of the intercooler piping, the second pipe down from the top on the left side of the pipe what is that metal tube that curves off the pipe?? I know this is s14 piping but i bought an sr20 s13 and it has piping like this on it but that curved this is just plugged up.. It doesnt look very nice plus not all the piping matches so im gunna buy new piping and was wondering if i need that ugly looking curvy thing. Thanks..

It's so you can mount your blow off valve.

... The curvy thing is on the left side of the engine bay.. The bov mounts on the right...?

AZ89 is right. The BOV doesn't have to be on the hot pipe. The factory BOV for the s14 SR is on the passenger side of the engine bay. My cold pipe has the same thing and I currently have my BOV there. It works, but not the best

So its better the way i have it now? (bov on the drivers side) and so that curvy things if u decied u wanna put ur bov there? I guess i have to search for piping without that curvy thing or cut it off n weld it shut or something.

Yeah if you have a flange welded on the hot pipe it's fine. Some will argue that cold side is better than the hot side. I don't know which one is best, but both work. Usually only intercooler pipes for the s14 sr have that, not the ones for the s13 sr

Gotcha, cuz the guy who had my car before me has like two diff kinds of intercooler pipes (some black, some aluminum polished) and it has the curvy thing w a rubber peice plugging it up it looks really ugly, plus the pipe is dented in lol, also i think i might change my HKS SSQ bov cuz i still hear compresser surge sometimes......
