I was driving home last night with my friend. he has a 92 acura integra ls. we head off down the road(theres nobody anywhere). we start off in 3rd, he's back by my rear bumper, and by the time we get done we are in 5th and he's a half a car ahead of me. I', like "what the-" I just paid $1300 for this motor and he owns me with his stock motor. His Carmotor: B18A1 (DOHC non-vtec)mods: stage 3 clutch, lightweight flywheel, aem CAI, and a cat back

My CarMotor: CA18DET mods: 2.5" exhaust w/ hi flow cat, and a cone filter

This is not one of those ricer street racing threads. I simply want to know why that thing beat me

You know, an N/A S13 KA with a couple of bolt-ons is faster than a stock CA, right?

The boost gauge in your sig tells the story..

Use the boost Luke...use the boost.

Hope you are using the highest octane fuel you can buy. Otherwise the ECU will run on the "granny-spec" fuel/ign map.

I noticed a HUGE difference in the power of my car when I advanced the timing on my CAS by a few degrees.... I dont have a timing light to tell me how many degrees advanced it is but before, when I was boosting, it was powerful and it pulled, but when I advanced it, it takes a second longer for the boost to kick in but it pulls HARD all the way through 6500-7000 ish. Give that a try.

seems to me like you CA need a tune up because I ran with my friends 92 rs with my old ka24e no mods and beat him... that leaves me ...

by the way.. should be you boost gauge plumbed the other way around... seems to me like you've got vacuum instead of boost reading....

You lost because you don't have the engine tuned correctly and you think that just because you have a turbocharger, you're supposed to win. Technically, you should've beat him. If it's not at least set-up the way the factory intenended it to be, you'll lose plenty more endurance contests. Good luck..................

ehh i wouldnt advance my timing just to go a little faster. Maybe if you want to upgrade to a differnet motor a little faster.

Most likely something is wrong with your motor... Either compression is low or timing is off, you have a boost leak, or something. I raced a buddy with a built b18c1 ( gsr motor) in a stripped down integra and I have a stock motor, no a/c, no p/s, and no clutch fan. I also have a 3in. turbo back exhaust, no cat, and an HKS filter. and I can get him by about a car.

btw, go to a track and see what you can run. then you can compare to other ppl with the same set-ups

Don't advance the timing if you don't know whatyou're doing. Advancing the timing without checking is just plain crazy and desperate and you will eventually screw something up. If your timing is correct, compression is within range of full service duties, no vacuum leaks, then you may want to start looking at either your transmission or diff or your driving sucks. I have a 2600lb hyundai elantra that with its 1.6litre turbocharged engine, boost set at 13psi and it just lays waste to RSX variants and even the new 197hp civic (the way it is expected to). I wouldn't even waste my time with the car you're talking about racing with my CA18 powered sentra. So again, you should be spanking this car you speak of.

Well, there is obiously something wrong. I have nearly no mods on my engine and here's what ive killed:- 95's civics are like playing with toys- R32 Skyline RB20DET - fun race but beat it by at least 3 car legnths- Jbody's are a walk in the park- 2002 Nissan Sentra Altima SE-R - Really close race. I took it on my top end in 4th and pulled away on 5th.

I dont see any reason why you shouldnt be able to beat that integra. Those are the types of cars you should be able to play with and rape em easily =)

Was this motor rebuilt or installed as you got it?

Also, have you correctly connected the secondary butterflies, or connected them at all?

Are you sure your timing is correct (never mind advancing it, be sure its correct at 15btdc IIRC) ?

Do you have your knock sensor wired up?

Have you checked your ECU for codes?

on top of that, hondas have way better top end then a ca18, so if you started in 3rd around mid range rpms, he prolly had you anyway. Look at stock ca18det 1/4 times, and you'll see what I mean.

This is not entirely true. While most honda high performance engines use their magnificent V-tik, I meant Vtec mechanism to help them achieve optimum power at higher rpms, the CA uses a naturally well-built, well-designed to achieve rpms similar to that of honda's vtec dohc series. Of course the CA has been around much longer, but saying hondas have better top end than CAs is just not true. There are so many other factors that help an engine perform optimally on the top end. I'm not pissing onyou dude, so please don't take it that way.

You'll find most a**-draggers won't race from a stop because they can't launch it w/o tire spin. *MOST*(this isn't a shot @ you Boost Boy)Don't waste your time beginning a race @ 50mph.You don't take off in 3rd at the track, do you? If they won't do it from a standstill, forget them. They all use this b/c everybody knows you can get 500hp out of a Honda, and it'll still have only 100 ft/lb of torque. This means they are slow as piss at the line. Once the V-tec kicks in, your boost is already down the line! Nissan Motorsports= NISMOHonda MOtorsports= h0m0

How much did that engine cost? It won't last. Keep the Honda Sh*T off here. In Japan, you start with a kids car, and work your way up to a Nissan or Toyota. In the end, its still a commuter Civic. The only Honda worth tuning is the RWD S2000 or NSX. Both are over-priced/ over-glorified.

The factory CA18 turbo isn't worth anything, and @ 9lbs. of boost is done before it even began. You might as well been NA at that gear and speed, because all that little turbo did was make alot of noise and air. It wouldn't have done anything for you.

My tired CA (before the rebuild) with a BIG FMIC, Air filter, and 3"turbo back exhaust, would barely hold 7psi to redline. At 9psi, That turbo wasn't doing a whole lot in the upper RPMS IMHO....

My SR T25 at 12psi is pretty damn quick. I really want to get it on a dyno and see what kind of numbers I am putting down. People tell me that its a night and day difference between the CA T25 and the SR T25.

My CA turbo was really fast to spool, but was done by 50mph. I ran 9lbs. w/o boost controller. It was still enough to beat my brothers 95' KA 5sp. (he runs only blitz exhasut)Looking at the trim of the SR- .80 A/R vs. CA- .48 A/R, you can see where the power difference is made up. However, my friend has a SR T25 on his SR20 and it doesn't spool until 4000rpm. WTF? it's not right. I've since purchased a S14 T28/25 unit. We'll see what #'s it can through around. My automatic has no problems holding boost."eds13" I would suggest a 3" exhaust so your car can breathe w/o the cat. You'll see a gain in power. Good Luck everybody!

wow! a lot more posts. thats what happens when your off of nico for a few days anywho, I bought the CA off of a guy that bought it off of Jarco, i think. I paid $1300 for it. and all i did was replace the spark plugs. the timing belt had already been replaced so i figured that would be alright for a while. I know a guy that is upgrading to a t3/t4 setup on his SR. So in July he said i could get it off of him for $75 at that time i'd like to have a 3" dp to go onto it.

i think that a t28 setup might do you better, im almost willing to guarantee that youll beat him then, especially on the freeway and it also depends on the miles an shape your and his motors are in,
