Whats the difference in the black top and the red top? and are there any differences when swapping them into a s13 chassis?

the blacktops are found in s14 and s15,a newer motor,therefore more expensive...but will fit,the redtops are found in s13 chassis.less expensive...i have a redtop and i love it

Depends on the Blacktop!! There is also a Blacktop SR20DET in the 1996 and newer 180sx's that are pretty much exactly like the Redtop... I have a blacktop out of a 1996 180sx and it is great. But moving on the S14 blacktop has VTC and I believe it has around 225 hp and the S15 Blacktop also has VTC and a ball bearing T28 turbo and I believe its hp is around 250hp you can look and see the valve cover isn't flat all back.

Your years are wrong. There are generally 4 SR20DET's that can be swapped:S13 SR20DET Redtop 1991-1994S13 SR20DET Blacktop 1994-1998S14 SR20DET Blacktop 1994-1998S15 SR20DET Blacktop 1999-2001

The S13 redtop and blacktop are basically the same. There are some differences, but what you need to do in order to do the swap is the same for these when you put them into an S13.

The S14 is harder because the wiring isn't as easy to find, you will need to figure out the wiring for the F3 plug.

The S15 is the most complicated because there are a ton of variables involved like: "Should I use or not use the...S15 speedo, S15 6 speed transmission, S15 rear differential, S15 ECU, etc..?"
