Back in summer of 2002, the 3 SUVs we narrowed it down to were:

1. 2002 Nissan Xterra SE 2. 2002 Nissan Pathfinder SE3. 2003 Toyota 4Runner SR5

It was to be my wife's car, so it was all up to her. She really loved the Xterra in bumblebee yellow... solely based on looks. Liked it (not loved) after driving it, but the way the rear seats folded down (idiotic), the grey bumpers and trim, and the very basic interior with merely acceptable quality disappointed her (and surprised me).

The new 4Runner was just trickeling onto Toyota lots. It drove like a milion bucks. Pure quality. Amazingly solid. But my wife absolutely hated the grey bumpers/wheel flares/door trim (reeked cheap on a $32K+ SUV).. Only way around it was to get a Limited... but dealer only had one and they wanted full price... around $40K. Insult to injury: the Limited with a moonroof didn't have enough headroom for me. My hair was constantly touching the headliner... very irritating.

The Pathy turned out to be perfect... quality, performance, great looks, refined, luxurious and sporty. Price (RWD) with rebate was around what Xterra SE (4WD) was at... after 2 minutes behind the wheel, my wife said "this is what I want, period". The rest is history.

It just hit 64,000 miles yesterday, and I couldn't be happier with "our" decision. Zero dealer visits. One self- repair (fan control module) and basic maintenance in 6 years is just what we expected from Nissan...

And we got it!

toyotas by far are amazing trucks. Over in portugal all my relatives roll in toyotas and they are amazing vehicles.

as for the 2002 xterra SE my parents had that exact same model but in black, it was really nice! i learned to drive in it actually. It did seem very basic inside but it was awesome for being active like it was the kind of vehicle you can get in drenched wet or all muddy and not really care. Throw bikes on the roof rack, and go mountain biking. Ahh maybe it was the advertising but it just seems like alot of fun! The thing that i really would get if i had it is the matching waterproof seats!! those are awweesome. and id get the supercharged one...awesome loved the rims on it. I love the sopranos episode where anthony gets one haha so cool. "OH man nissan xterra supercharged!" wonder how much nissan had to pay for that!

anyways it was on lease (first and last time my parents leased a car!) and the head gasket blew at 60k kms so that was the last straw, dad went to get his dream a land rover discovery se7. (4.0L V8 = sexy) what a difference.

When I was shopping for a truck back in 2004 it pretty much came down to either finding a real good 01-04 Pathfinder or wait until the new Xs came out get one of them with the 4.0 and 6spd manual. Then I found my truck and don't regret it at all.

Speaking of dream cars, after I get my student loans paid off, I plan of buying and building mine. 1965 Shelby Daytona Coupe kit car and when its done it should look something like this :

Hmmm, mine would be a full-size Montero, not the Sport. Lots more room than the QX4 with about the same gas mileage. More power too. Factory locking rear differential!

I'd have to say everyone is spot on with the 4runner, my dad had one and the thing was sick, only I would like a 5spd. My next one would be a jeep of some sort, and prolly an old landcruiser.

ANd my wish list:

2008: Infiniti fx452008: Acura RDXAnd this thing if it were real:

I bought my 03 Pathy almost exactly a year ago. I was looking for an SUV that could handle Canadian winters and had a good amount of cargo room. (I'm a hockey goalie and a part-time hockey coach, which means I need to carry around tons of hockey gear. Also, I love camping, which again means hauling tons of camping gear around).

The Pathy topped my list thanks to praise from other owners I know personally, awesome reviews online, and its history of being stupidly reliable. Other SUV's on my watch list were:

1. 03-04 Toyota 4Runner. Was running almost neck-and-neck with the Pathy. Only slightly behind because I didn't know anyone with a 4Runner, so I didn't have any first-hand testimonials.

2. 02-04 Nissan Xterra. Also on my list of possibilities, but I was hesitant about sacrificing cargo space for the X's better offroad capability.

3. 03 Honda Pilot, though to me it was more like a minivan than an SUV.

...

99. Jeep of any kind. I have family and friends who've had them, and only one has actually had a reliable one they actually enjoy driving. The rest had nothing but bad words.

And the wishlist:

1. '09 Infiniti QX56. There's no reason why my next SUV wouldn't be a Pathy, and I wouldn't mind going the luxury route by switching over to the Infiniti brand.

2. '09 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. The definition of luxury delivers a full-size SUV. For taking off-roading? No way. But there's boy's toys and there's business, and this is all business.

2. '09 FJ Cruiser. Would have put this up on the 'afford' list if there was such a thing as an '04 or '05 FJ for me to buy used. If I'm looking for an SUV in a couple years, this is going to be high up. And unlike the Infinity or Mercedes, *this* is a vehicle to have fun with.

When we were shopping for the Q, we were looking for it, or a 2003 or newer Ford Taurus wagon, so I would probably have ended up with that. I know that is quite a difference, but it had the space that I was looking for and was in my price range for my business. If we went with an SUV, I would like a 2006 or newer Toyota RAV4 if I had the money.

There are SO many choices. I prefer luxury over anything but like a sporty looking ride as well. I will be finished with school next summer and hopefully upgrading soon after. Right now my top contenders are as follows:

08+ Cadillac Escalade05+ Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-807+ Chevrolet Trailblazer SS07+ Chevrolet Sierra Denali Whichever I get will be in black.

Also considering (but less likely to choose):Lexus GX 470Infiniti QX56Range Rover Sport Supercharged

First SUV I had was a 1993 Ford Explorer. It wasn't without it's problems, but I really liked that truck. Can't say the same for any Fords I had after that.I still like the Infiniti FX35/45's. Great looks. If there was no money limit, maybe a Porsche Cayenne.

yes, that is one SICK fx. WOW. I personally am considering getting a 350z some day over my dream...the bmw. My q will be my winter ride because i know it will still be running by them (roughly 5 years) knock on wood. I love the G. especially the new g37. but my girlfriend wants to get one when she can afford it so she wouldnt notice the similarities if i got a z. But, if i do end up getting a g, i might as well consider looking for another girl. no way jose.

Something about the nissan thing. it just screams passion. anybody ever see the z commercial where the guy is growing up and the years go by with him looking at the car...and throughout the years it evolves into todays...now that is advertising.

makes me want to go out and bring home a 300zx right now.

Good choice on the patrol fueler.....i saw those in portugual. their version of the frontier is SOLID too. i saw some guys driving around with the diesel versions, stickshift, and removed box. I can bet that would take out half the ricers over here. and the things freakin carry milk cans. Now thats cool.

I remember i got to met steve milen at the 1994 detroit auto show...yes i was six years old. Yet was oogling over the twin turbo 300zx he raced. I even had a signed poster....wish i could find it. that thing was NICE.
