I was just wondering if anyone is running a stand alone unit? What type and what you think of it. I have been looking around and found many different types. I was looking at the autronic stand alone because it configures itself and then you can fine tune it after. Just wondering what other people have been running. also if your running one could you give the price you paid for it. thanks

P.S: What set up your running?

The only true plug and play in the market right now is AEM... every other standalone requires you to add a new trigger wheel, modify wires and such.

I'm running Greddy e-manage blue and while it does the basic job, there are problems with it such as bov and stall issues, and cold start & timing issues. The newer emanage ultimate is suppose to be better but I personaly don't think it's worth the price after you purchase the unit & harness.

So, I've been working on a surprise project regarding standalones that will help all you KA-T guys... it's in its prototype stages right now, but as soon as my car idles with it I'll fill you guys in on it!

Why do you need to go stand-alone. I thought for a while about Mega-squirt, but I here Enthalpy is a miracle worker, so that is what I am doing.

Does the AEm come with everything you need? I always affraid that you will need to buy more sensors and wire harness for it after you buy the kit. Does the AEM also take out the maf?

the aem can work with a stock motor and stock sensors. if you want to get rid of the maf then you need to buy a map sensor to wire in.

i am using the aem ems with a 3.5bar map and wideband. it is easy to tune if you know what you're doing because it has data logging, and it will even tune itself to some degree with the target a/f feature and closed loop fuel trim feature.but the thing is if you don't have any fuel management experience of any kind, stand alone, piggyback or anything else, stand alone and easy to tune are not going to be 2 words used together to describe the experience.because of the shear level of control a stand alone can give you, that in itself makes it difficult. there are tables, graphs, settings, and features that will simply make your head spin.as far as stand alones are concerned, the aem is pretty user friendly. mainly because it is a plug and play system and the fact that they give you a base map right off the bat so you don't have to spend a bunch of time setting it up just to get the engine running decent.

I'm probably gonna go with a MegaSquirt because there are some awesome MS tuners around here.
