i was looking at all the sr20det's available and am confussed i own a 1995 SE and would like to save money and the cost of losing a little bit of hp. i know the red or black top s13 motor doesnt make any difference but is the s14 sr that much better like 600 bucks?

I'd go with a RB26, but I have a S14 Sr and love it. I've been around a lot of S13 SR's and have no complaints. If you want a motor with lots of aftermarket support, get the S13 SR, I can hardly find anything for the S14 SR's. Good luck, usually whatever you go with, you'll like it.

i would stick with an s13 motor, word has it they have a better flowing head design, which is a good thing, also me personally i would get the blacktop because it is found in the newer s13 so it should have less wear and tear

when u look at an rb20 you need to plan ahead, is the weight of a 6 cylinder and the same displacement of an sr20 worth it, look at the aftermarket for both engines, and decide what your plans are for this particular car. I would go from there. all motors for the 240 are great choices it just depends on what u want to do with the car. Oh and also your budget, have u thought of doing a KA-T, that another option alot of people choose.

yeah i thought about it i have a garage with all the tools etc to do the sr swap. I was originally gonna just T my ka but I dont want to doo all of that work. I think I want to get a sr20det. I didnt know that the s14 sr didnt have as much aftermarket parts. I have been reading If i got a boost controller and z32 maf and fuel pump I could max out the boost safely right? Or would I need to other stuff?

If I were you I would go with the S14 SR20, I mean it belongs in the car, likely it is going to be newer than a Red top SR20 and it generates more hp in its stock form, along with it having a larger turbo.......More power, less boost and not too much stress on the motor......if u want you could buy a RB20 but remember the parts for it are going to be harder to find (because they arent as much aftermarket popular as SRs in the U.S.) and they are older.......also they generate around the same power as the SR in stock form, and plus it adds weight unlike the SR, but they are good high hp motors.......(u should be ready to spend around 180-2000 for the swap......The rb26 clip alone would cost atleast 4 gs, with that money you can have a 250hp SR.....So I hope this helps you.

The S14 SR20 does have alot of aftermarket parts, not as much as the S13, but there are alot......U just have to search for them.....try Japanese performance parts sites and other companies;if they stock S13 SR parts likely they are going to have some S14 parts too.................

cool I think if I do the swap I am gonna go with s13 redtop and max out the bolts that go onto it. What would I need sr20 excluding to be in the area of 250-275 whp. I have been reading and not really getting all of the answers. Can anyone tell me exactly to buy, and why?

what the hell are you talking about?

anyway, redtop is a good choice. lost of aftermarket support. and the highport design will react better to upgrades as compared to the s14 low-port design.

as for power upgrades read this - zerothread?id=59344

I am guessing for 250hp to 275hp if you havent read that page he gave you already, ofcourse you will need a new and larger turbo, FMIC, larger injectors, tuning, maybe a Koyo raidator if you are running the stock one, electric fans (from what I heard dual 10s and 12s are good) nismo thermostat (to keep the motor cool) maybe a Nismo FPR, clutch, maybe a light flywheel, and ofcourse a whole lotta boost...........maybe around 18-20-22....somewhere in that range.......but with larger cams and gears and valvesprings you should be able to get there with alittle less boost.......you are going to need gauges also to make sure everything is running right, pressure, temp,ect..... I think those are the basic upgrades to get you there........And exaust and air intake ofcourse if you dont have it(a 3 inch downpipe and 3 inch exaust would be good)

stock t25 maxed out a 14psi with simple upgrades like 3in exaust, test pipe, fuel pump, fmic can and often does net around 250rwhp.

anything above 14 will blow the stock turbo with a quickness. also things like cams and valve springs will add 0hp gains while still on the stock turbo. the only upgrades you should worry about right now are what i mentioned earlier.
