if your looking to upgrade later stick with the blacktop or redtop. The notch tops have good power from the start but cost much more to upgrade.

Also do a search many people before you have asked this question.

I'd go ahead and get a redtop and replace the oil pump/front cover assembly, water pump, timing chain, all gaskets, vacuum lines, thermostat, spark plugs, and clutch. I'd also do a tune up consisting of air filter, gas filter, oil filter, motor oil, and gearbox oil. This is apart from any other maintenance needed for the car itself.

initially, notchtops are more expensive, but i don't see how its more expensive to upgrade. with the exception of my intake cam and intake plenum, just about everything else i have gotten would work on either engine.
