What springs are these? will they be ok on my car?

My brother hit a deer with his 89 coupe and its pretty well gone, the whole car isn't doing well. When he bought the car it had lowering springs on it, i want to take them but have a couple concerns...one is that i have no clue what kind they are. He said that they were eibach, but i dont see eibach or any other brand written on it. I dont know how long theyve been on there either, they look kind of worn bu the ones on my car are already really shot. Another thing is that his car is almost too low, like he scrapes stuff sometimes and its got a couple dings in the front bumper, are these adjustable can i make them sit any higher on my car? Is there something i can buy or something someone told me theres like some 'coilover kit' i have no idea though any advice is appreciated cause ive wanted my car low for awhile, i could rent out storage in my enormous wheelwells. having said that...

dont put used worn out suspension stuff to replace worn out suspension. at least buy some kyb's.

Anyways, you sure that car has lowering springs? That car sits up high man.

you have kyb agx's as for the springs who know,i say change them for some tein's.

hell ya id grab those in a heartbeat. those are kyb agx's. thy have to be better than your stock ones. i have agx's and tein s tech springs. they are green. eibachs are black, i have a set layin around.

the knob is for dampening the suspension...like how stiff or soft youw anted the dampening to be. good struts especially for lowering springs.

its a nice hatch, same color and trim as mine.

i have some Tokiko blue struts and KYB red springs on my car (sits a little lower) those look similar to what i have so they might be KYB struts as well. although they are a little soft they do help in cornering



this is how my car sits, you can see the little stock plastic lip is scrapped alot from curbs and things, just have to be careful of pot holes, speedbumps, and steep inclines when you lower it. coilovers would be your best bet if you want to upgrade the suspension, just do your research before you get them. spend some time reading the forums. hope that helps

oh i believe you, but eibach also makes a red spring and black spring.. the red is the sportsline spring, while the black on is the pro spring.

Eibach springs always have the part number and the Eibach logo screen printed in white lettering on their springs. Looking at the number of coils and the diameter, I think those are more likely Ground Control coils. The dampers are possibly AGXs, but KYB always stamps their logo into the strut body. Even my Nismo dampers have the original KYB part numbers stamped into them.

yea but old suspension sometimes the part numbers/ brands rub off or get dirt over them

shocks are definately agx's which are a nice entry level choice for struts

springs im not sure, id be wary of sportlines... if they are ground control you would be better off.

you guys were right, its daytime now and i wiped some of the nasty off and found the KYB logo and serial numbers :

and the springs cleaned up nice to, but they are sportlines.: which iirc means they are eibachs...why better if they were ground control are they not very nice springs? im going to put them on my car later probably in like 8 hours or so ill post pics up. hes junking the car soon so im going to put them on for now, and get a coilover kit for them sometime in the near future. Another thing i meant to ask is that when i aligned it i used to factory specs in the alignment machine, but if i put these on how will i know which specs to align it to? thanks for the help guys

those spring rates are crappy and soft...

it puts too much strain on aftermarket shocks and could blow them...

i dont have a personal experience with this, but alot of people have complained about it

Actually, they would be the exact opposite.

When I was buying dampers, I actually emailed KYB USA and got into a long back and forth with one of their reps. The short and long of it, the AGXs are designed with stock spring rates and height, so KYB reccomends no more than a 1" drop (which the Sportlines have a what...2.1"?) and no more than a 10% increase in rate. So the Sportlines have a better rate for the AGXs but the Pro Kits have a better ride height. The Sportlines are really just dress up springs, have a lower height, with fewer coils but are progressive. IIRC the Pro Kits are linear, but have a higher ride height and take better advantage of the camber curve of our oh so lovely MacPhearson strut type layout.

Just my $.02. Either way, for free, they are not a bad deal. I would not spend money on that setup however. Not when the Nismo setup I run is with in ~$100 retail.

I meant to post the pics up last night but it took longer than expected cause the front passenger side had a bolt that snapped and we had to cut it. But after much ado we got it done at like 11, in the dark and icy front yard. I need a garage :\ When my tires were all of i had a chance to see how cose to blowing they were, so i replaced the worst one with my spare. (full size spare but nasty lookin) Here they are:

If I had a place to store a parts car I'd offer your brother money for that coupe.

However, since I not, I think he should fix it on the cheap, run a crazy bozuku style exhaust, some dirt cheap coilovers and have fun with it. Not an everyday driver type car, but something to not give a damn about.

Yeah that would be pretty sweet, he was thinking about doing something like that but hes going to leave soon to join the army and was selling it anyways. We have too many cars in our driveway already or else id probably hang on to it. The whole thing is in pretty bad shape anyways, the engine is sohc so i can only take some parts, and his interior is blue and mines gray so i cant take many interior parts. All of the body parts are damaged except for like 1 i think so i cant use many of those either i figured id just let him get rid of it. He paid like $600 and used it for like a year and some change i think he got his moneys worth heh.
