Just curious, as the stock non-Bose radio on my Rogue goes up by numbers, I was wondering what # you guys usually listen to it at. Asking b/c I don't want to blow the speakers by listening too loud. Right now I usually keep it at around 11 or 12, which really isn't even that loud, but when friends get in and try to crank it up, I freak out on them b/c I don't want to blow the factory speakers.

P.S. What are those little grills in the upper left and right of the dashboard near the windshield? Are they for defrosting or are they tweeter grills(if I had more than 4 speakers in my S model Just curious as I've never seen defrosting grills in the upper corners before.

I usually set the radio volume at 4 (5 if window is open or I want to listen what they say) in city, and between 7 and 8 on the highway.

I mainly use the radio and it is just to get some background noise in the car, that is all, so I am not the norm, I believe.

Waiting for some more responses, b/c with your 4 or 5, it sounds like I might be going deaf if I have to have it above 10 LOL

Any self-respecting Spinal Tap fan listens to the radio at 11. And ONLY 11.

(Okay, 'self-respecting' and 'Spinal Tap fan' are ironic at best, but...)

I usually listen to music around the 10-12 range. I've also wondered what those grills were on the dash, hopefully somebody here will solve this mystery for us.

Wow people, I don't even keep track of the volume readout. How the heck do I remember that number?

I go by whatever the underlying environmental conditions are such as construction, city driving, open window, sunroof, crying baby, talking passengers, rain, earthquake etc.

Mostly, I make it just loud enough to cover up the cargo area noise during the rain.

I know in my early 20's it would be around level 10-15. I don't know how high it goes. You would think it would still be that way since we suppose to lose our hearing as we get older and need it louder?...lol.

The funny thing, at times when I start my car, the radio is too loud to me. I guess without the driving part it does that.

But now that I'm old as dirt. I usually leave it 5 and below I presume. Moreover, I place bass at -3 so it would be clearer to me. Is that a good sign or bad sign? Less bass because I'm losing the high frequencies at my old age or less bass because I'm becoming my parents?

The grilles in the corners near the windshield are for the tweeters used in the BOSE system. They servo no purpose for non-BOSE the systems.

I'm usually between 8-12 when alone, and 5-6 when wife is in the car.

That's a bad sign, Casper. I do have the Bose, but it's +5 bass and 11-15 when I'm alone in the car.

In mine with the Bose, with Bass +5 listening to the radio its at MAX, using iPod(with ipod all the way up) the most I go is 19(sounds like crap if I go higher)...nice massager! Lol, I'll probably be deaf by the time I'm 30 but at least I'm having fun. I particularly like listening to Boom boom pow(by the black eyed peas) and setting other cars to shame with their crappy systems(the ones where all you can hear is the car vibrating and not the music) Heehee, I love my Rogue!

Yes, the sound does go flat above 18-19 on the volume 'display'... even on the base model radio. It doesn't sound like it's clipping, rather I think BOSE did something internally to protect the amp from clipping and damaging the speakers. I can usually get around this by turning up the iPod volume more.

Exactly. Because 11 is better than 10.

I actually do listen to mine on 11 a lot of the time with satelitte radio input. For background when the wife and kid are with me about 5 around town, and if a good song is on 11 is where it needs to be with the satelitte aux input. If it's the FM radio, it goes higher because FM reception in the Rogue is really pretty poor, I need about 14 level to rock out to a good FM radio song.

So after reading everyone's posts, I feel like I'M the one who should be the most worried about blowing their awesome factory speakers. I keep the bass +5 and usually listen to my ipod at about 28 and the radio at about no more than 20. I think I should invest in some new speakers to avoid having NO speakers. :?

From age 16-29, I believed I crank the bass & treble to the fullest setting which is actually raising the volume. As I gotten older, I don't really need to listen to music at the highest level. I also think by the time you blow your speakers, I am sure you would be able to tell when its distorting so bad that you'll know if its getting damage and heading towards failure. So I wouldn't worry too much listening at high levels as long as your speakers are not distorting and your enjoying the music experience.

I use 5, sometimes 6 and is already very loud. Used speed sensing for volume adjustment on highway.

Also want to mention that the non-Bose audio also has tweeters at the dash below the wind shield. It is with the premium package. They are 2.5 inch speakers.

As mentioned above, I'd bet that you'd get distortion before you blew the speakers.

They seem to be bumpy road indicators with our Rogue, based on the way the grilles rattle. :chuckle:

Need to get some stuff to secure the grilles better...
