I'v been unable to find snow tires and steel rims for my 2007 M35. I need a snow tire for wisconsin winter. But no rims are listed for this car. I'd like to have a 17 inch (vs. the 19 stock) and a narrower tire than the stock 245. The tire size is one problem but the wheel offset is another. Any ideas?

Both tirerack.com and discount tire have packages. A few local places I called offered what was a resale from tirerack. No one had steel rims (or takeoffs) but there are cheap alloys for a bit less than $100 each. I went with the MSWT14. Nothing special but not a mark on them after on winter.

I've ordered two winter packages from tirerack and received excellent service both times.

If you search the forum you'll find a discussion we had on the different tires. I stayed with the 18" but recommend the 17" with a softer tire if you're looking for help in severe weather. You'll also want to browse the threads on the TPMS resets. I was bit confused on how to order the package mounted and balanced w/o a TPMS (legal disclaimers and so on) but the friendly sales staff helped out.

I have M45 sport on 19"I am also looking for snow tires and while I checked different places they all recommend different rim & tire sizes.

Discount Tire: 225/55 - 17Just Tires: 245/45 - 18 - they stated that 17 won't fit and would be too sensative for transmission, but this size seems too wide for snow.TireRack: 235/50 -17 or 245/45 - 18 Local company: 235/50 - 18 - they recomended not to go down more than 1 rim size so I can only go from 19 to 18 only and not 17.

Now I am totally confused which one to get?

Guys, remember to be careful about the offset needed for the wheels on a 2006+ M. It is higher than normal.

Personally, I would recommend getting a cheap set of 18x8.5 wheels (with a 47mm offset), and use 245/45-18 snow tires for winter.

Having driven in New Hampshire for many years, I would be totally comfortable doing the above.

I recently turned in (lease) a 2006 M35x, only had 30,000 on it. I still have the winter wheels and tires that I used -- I bought them from Tire Rack in Dec 2005.

My MSW T14's are 18x8 45mm and came with a small spacer. Tire size is the factory recommended 245-45 18. I've heard a few grumbling about spacers but I have not noticed any problems in clearance, tire wear or ride/handling.

What problems does an incorrect offset cause? Thanks

Hmmm ... with 18x8 45mm offset wheels, on a 2007 M (that is what you have, right?), you should not have had to use a spacer - it would only be needed for the 2003/2004 M45 with that offset value. The stock wheels for the 2006+ M have 47mm and 50mm offsets - info is in the stickies in this forum.

Spacers add rotating weight, alignment problems, potential for unbalancing, etc. Best to get correct offset wheels instead.

With incorrect offsets (using positive offsets as is typical for Nissan and Infiniti vehicles):

1. If the wheel sits too far out (too low an offset value), the tire could come under the fender and could touch the body on bumps (fwiw, I am not a fan of the stretch look!).

2. If the wheel sits too far in (too high an offset value), it could contact suspension components, particularly when turning - on the front wheels.

Do you know if 45mm is going to be ok on M45 Sport or I should sill only stick with 47mm?

45mm should be okay ... that is small enough not to matter. Particularly if the tire width is not too extreme.
