Looking to get new tires (desperately need them) and I'm considering used tires since I tear through them anyway and I got a good deal on my last set of used ones.

I have 245/65/17 currently on the stock 17" rims.
What sizes will work with my car...aka no rubbing etc. I don't have a lift and I don't plan on putting one in right now.
I wouldn't mind going a bit wider at all.

Thanks!

search is your friend.

and getting used tires is an absolutely horrible idea. waste of money, you don't know what those tires have been through, they will very rarely, if ever, match, have same tread depth, etc., and is not a smart idea at all.

but, your truck, your decision.

I got used tires just last week, and I'm satisfied. I was running on Yokohama winter tires, before installing two used Nexen(meh) tires that I had, and getting two used Goodyears for the back. The front and back is mismatched, but it drives much smoother now nevertheless! Two new tires would have cost me ~$400, I paid $125 for the tires installed & balanced (including front).

Since the vehicle is 12 years old, spending close to a grand on a new set of tires seems kind of much in my opinion.

I run 275/55/17. ALOT wider. Prices went thru the roof in that size though since I last purchased mine.

Hell all, im new to this forum and a new owner of an Infiniti QX4. Im also in the market for a new pair of tires for my QX4. I would like to throw the biggest sportiest looking tires possible on a stock setup.

GRNMACHINE: do you think you could post a pic of your QX4 with those 275/55/17 tires? I would love to see how they look on the truck. How does this size tire compare to 265/65/17 or 265/70/17 in terms of height?

Sorry I dont mean to thread jack

here's my take.

the tires are the only thing connecting you/your vehicle to the ground. i have no problem, whatsoever, spending money on tires to keep my family, my friends, and myself as safe as possible. in total, no matter how large of tires you get, you will really only have approximately an 8 1/2" x 11" (probably a little bigger) size piece of paper holding you to the ground, and that's counting all four tires.

a 275 width tire is on the very border of being too wide for a stock sized wheel. just an FYI.

again to the OP and anyone, really. your car/truck. do whatever you like.

used tires are just a bad decision. just sayin'. :)

on another side note, i paid $700 for a full set of brand new Michelins on my truck. definitely worth every single penny. a cheaper brand tire (i.e. many tires from the Bridgestone line) would've been less expensive and better than used tires, a hundred fold. then again, i put nothing but Michelin or BFG on any of my vehicles. that's just me, and i've been through A LOT of tires.

On the original 16" rims I am running Michelin LTX A/T2 P265/70R 16.
This is the largest diameter tire that fits under a stock suspension,( 29.5" )
They are about 9" wide, surprisingly quiet, with a comfortable ride at 38 lbs pressure.

They look good, too !

a 265/70/16 is much closer to about a 31" tire.

I have 265/65/17 on mine. Its perfect. A little rubbing when backing up and turning hard at the same time. But only a little. About to buy my second set. That size is near 31". :mike

Any updates cole? Always interested to see what others are able to fit. Reread my post, and 275/55/17 I am running are not on stock wheels, had a set of 17x8.5 Konigs and currently have 17x9 Alba's. A slight amount of plastic needed to be trimmed.

I'm taking a wild stab in the dark here knowing that i am resurrecting an ancient thread. I found some firestone 265 65 r17's I'm driving a stock QX4. Curious if I would have to trim at all or loose my mud flaps to fit these. Also I would love to know how they rode? :ohno:

Well if anyone is curious 265 65 17 fits perfectly no rub. Could maybe go taller on a skinnier tire but I think this is the better route there a good inch taller and wider than stock ride is comfy grip is grippy. :BnB:

The Pathfinder I just bought has ridiculous 20" rims - with 275/45/20 tires - actual measurements in SAE would be 31x9.75, no rubbing, no issues. Can't wait to get some proper rims and tires on this.
