The safc is a fine tuning device for the money.

The MSD BTM does exactly what you need it to do. You only need to retard timing when your under boost, so it only pulls timing when your under boost, the NA mpas will work great for every other occasion.

Timing can be retarded via a dial anywhere from 0-3 degree's per lb of boost. Usually .5 is best.

Get a MSD Knock Meter if you'd like to measure knock. The stethescope will not work, there is to much ambient noise.

Knock is read by the ECU, the ecu pulls timing out under knock conditions, but not enough to keep you from blowing up your motor. The ecu may already be pulling out timing, you won't know it unless you have a datalogger or scanner.

well, if you're looking to have timing control in addition to fuel, maybe an e-manage would be a better and cheaper option.

well thats better than i expected to hear. at least its pulling some timing. honda's for example only use the knock sensor under 4000rpm at high load. theyre useless after

so can you log a stock knock sensor? anyone tried it? is it a 5v signal?

SOHC KA's do NOT have knock sensors.

DOHC KA's do. You can hook up the knock sensor output to the SAFC II and monitor it.I wonder what other aftermarket knocksensors there are out there beides the MSD one, which costs as much if not more) than the BTM itself.

Same with your stock KA knock sensor...it's used at ~4700rpm and under ONLY...and it has no progressive control...if the ECU reads knock, it pulls something like 8 degrees of timing in one shot.

Nissan ECUs are NOT at all like DSM ECUs where the knock control is "active". We have a fail-safe that is ignored just after peak TQ...which is almost useless for a turbo car.
