I use Redline - Whatever you use, make sure it is synthetic if you want the best

Just regular stuff...a viscous lsd (I'm assuming that is what is) uses regular fluid; the viscous fluid is contained in the differential and doesn't get changed.

The Aussies on the Skylinesaustralia forums seem to swear by the Redline Heavyweight Shockproof fluid for the differential....

synthetic fluid is DEATH to a clutch type differential. i would never run that stuff on a clutched diff that sees track time.

viscous diff (whats in the nissans from the factory) and a clutch type are different things. youll be fine using synthetic.

What do you suggest I use then? Maybe I should have researched this more. I was just going off what the guy i bought it from told me. And I use Redline in my engine too so i just figured that would be fine. guess not, but thanks for the heads up

myself and the majority of friends who have 2 ways use lucas non synthetic heavy duty gear oil. if you are rich, you can run kaaz oil but its 40$ a bottle (takes 1 bottle to fill diff) the lucas stuff works great, its a little noisy but works. just dont use synthetic. the synthetic stuff coats the plates and causes locking problems in the diff.

LUCAS oil is the way to go. I use Lucas in everything...to include my Skyline when I was oversea's. Used it for about 3 years with no problems.

huh, are you sure about that?im running redline gear oil in my diff (75w85 or something like that), and i was told that i should run syn. in my ats rear end.all the guys on dgtrials run syn....dont use shockproof in a clutch rear end, that will really mess it up, but regular syn is ok.ive had no problems with my rear end, just let it warm up like you are supposed to and it locks fine.

As I said earlier. The Austrailian boys mostly prefer the REdline Shockproof in their diffs and trannies. They use the heavyweight for the diffs and the lightweight for the trannies....

kaaz absolutley reccomends against it, the synthetic molecules are smaller so they prevent locking of the plates as well as a dino based oil. this is from kaaz, ive obviously never tested it. there were 5 cars today drifting here at a road course running the heavy weight lucas, including myself, nobody had any differential problems.

3rd post downhttp://www.drifting.com/forums....html

i assumed this is for all clutch based diffs, but i may be wrong.

yeah i would say that just run the regular redline oil, not the shockproof as it has some kind of chemical in it that makes the clutches too slippery.for the break in use the gear oil that comes with the differential, i used the can of stuff that came from ats.syn gear oil works fine, they just want you to pay out the *** for their oil.when i say warm up, i mean just that my diff works so much better and is much more predictable when it has warmed up (ie driving for about 10 min) not sure if any of the others do this but this is how mine reacts.actualy now that i think about it i should change my rear end oil soon......

Hey guys sorry. I just learned more about it is a viscous limited slip its been used but I should use the gear oil and then switch to the redline or shouldi slowly change it. So if im going to the track with slicks on what should I do?

Well, since you have the viscous rear end, and this is identical to the Skyline rear end, just switch it all over to the redline Shockproof heavyweight. Go to http://www.skylinesaustralia.com and search. Believe me, this topic has been discussed more times than any one can count.....

Since you do NOT have a clutch diff, you don't have to worry about what Carl H is talking about, even though he is right, but not on your application.

My viscous is out of a skyline. I am hearing so many different things that I am getting really confused all i know is i want something that is going to make it hook and run super good and make sure it wont damage it. what is the shock proof going to do that the light weight differential fluid or the heavy gear oil wont, and if i get shock proof what grade or weight should I get? so far ive heard just to get some royal purple gear oil I think i was told to get 75w90 but im not sure so?
