Hey guys I may go to a 5 speed on my M30 VG30ET. What would be the cheapest clutch/flywheel combo that could take 600 hp? SD

Race only or planning on street driving as well?

If race only you could use something like a high stage SPEC clutch. The stage 3 handles 515 torque and they go up to stage 5 though they start getting very stiff and less streetable.

ACT is a good route and I hear South Bend Clutches makes some very good ones as well.

For a good street clutch that'll handle a ton of power, you could spend a good deal of money on a OS Giken multiplate clutch. That would hold the ultimate amount of power and still be very, very streetable. Much more expensive though.

thanks for the reply! Yeah, I'd like to stay away from the cost of a multiplate. Been there done that on my R33. I'll be using the car mostly on the street. What would be the cost on the stage 3 and where would you suggest I get it? SD

I got mine from http://www.nipponpower.com. For some reason (not sure if this holds for all Z31 clutches) but the earlier 240 mm clutch setup has a higher torque capacity rating than the later 250 mm Turbo clutches.

The pedal feel is definitely stiffer than stock but it'll definitely hold some power. I did notice some slipping while cruising after driving for a few hours but now I know that its likely the pedal adjustment. I need to adjust the pedal a bit to fix that so if you get that clutch (or any clutch that may do the same) that'll likely be the solution.

You may also check out South Bend Clutch (www.dxdracingclutches.com). Their stage 3 holds as much torque as the SPEC stage 3 however it is a full face clutch instead of a puck design, which I would think would be quite nice. Prices are very similar.

SPEC is one of our sponsors, and they'd take good care of you Doc.

Lemme know if you need me to place a call.

So far, I've just been making it run good. One of the previous owners wasn't so good to it an pretty much blew the original engine so I dropped in an 85 Maxima engine and swapped the turbo setup over. 9:1 compression with the turbo setup makes for a very fun car.

I'm still deciding if I want to keep it or not but if I do I'll do the basic turbo, fuel, and intercooler upgrades for a fun street car.
