Interesting situation...I have a chance to exchange some parts from a crashed up 04 Q45 to put on my 02. My buddy is selling the car to some junk yard. I've already taken the MAF and am planning on exchanging the throttle body since mines is giving a error code of P0505, and the Coil packs. I was thinking of trading the Cat also. What other things would be a good exchange? Mines does not have the pedal and ECM? update, so what can be taken from the 04 to make mines better? I don't know where the ECM is on these cars. thanks in advance

I would check the CD changer to see if there are perhaps any Rosetta Stone discs in there you could grab before the car gets turned over to the junkyard.

The transmission update was to the ECU/TCU and pedal if I recall correctly. I don't know if those parts of of an '04 would be compatible with your '02 or not. I know the differential gearing is more aggressive on the '04, so the programs are probably different. If you could swap differentials, that might be a worthwhile upgrade.

Yes the 2.764 rear diff gear is 13.3% under geared to later 3.133, but it results in a 7% lower rpm at cruise compared to a 90-96Q so in theory that's where the 1 MPG improvement in Highway MPG comes from compared to 90-96.

In this day and age consider whether you want to loose 7-13% on the highway that is 1.5> 2.0 MPG.

By not nearly as bad as the newer M45 with its 3.357

ECU, TCU and Throttle (acellerator assembly) linkage shouild give you the update.

Electronically, F50 after 2002 are a lot different.

I don't think I'll be doing the diff. exchange, too much work for my sub par mechanical skills. I'll try out the ECU, TCU and Throttle exchange. Hopefully, its not too hard to remove. I'll look at the FSM but for shortcuts sake, can anyone point out where the TCU is on the car? thanks again for all the replies guys.

In most Nissan vehicles, the TCU is usually behind the left kick panel, with the ECU on the right. Check the FSM for sure.

Oh, and check your email...

got your email heath, Thanks you very much! greatly appreciate that. My car definately needs this upgrade, can't tell you how many times I think I'm going to get rear ended trying to merge on the freeway. not just annoying but down right dangerous.

just checked the FSM and they are both on the passenger side kick panel. Hope they are the same.

Are you willing to sell the drivers side upper cat?
