Tomarrow i'm going to look at a 240sx for sale. the ad simply says "93 nissan 240sx. nds frt oils seal & rear shocks" the car is basically going to be a project car. what exactly is a 'front oil seal' and how hard is it to replace?

Also is there any thing specific i should look into? could the seal cause additional problems i should look for? are there any specific problems that 240s are particularly prone to? how do i tell if it has a LSD or HICAS (the car may not be driveable)? any other input would be apreciated.

front oil seal is right behind the crank pulley. just take the belts off, pull the pulley off, pop the old seal out, and put the new one in.

Now things to look for when you go check it out:listen for timing chain noisecheck hatch for rustcheck the rest of the car for rustlook at the sunroof seal if it's got oneanything leaking is badif the car has ABS, it's probably got LSD and/or HICAS

If there is an orange dot on the differential, it has LSD. If it has HICAS it will have a HICAS light on the dash to the right of the steering column, it may say Super HICAS on the black strip that goes around the car, and if you look under the car from the back there will be extra stuff hangin' around.

Another thing that doesn't really matter but bugs the CRAP outta me is, if it has a digital speedo, try to check if it still works. I don't have a speedo or any other cluster lights until the car is warmed up.
