Greetings.

I am new to Infiniti and am currently in the final stages of deciding what my next car is going to be. The top right now is a 06 M45. I plan to go test drive an M some time in the coming week. I have to driver about 50 miles to the nearest dealership, but they do have an 06 that is perfectly in my price range.

As there is not a lot of forum support for this car, compared to say a G35 or 350/370Z, I am having a difficult time finding weak points in the car to look for. I would love some direction.

Additionally, I have not seen a lot of performance upgrades for the car. I am also wondering what I would need in the car to have it running low 13s high 12s...short of NOS, blower, etc.

Thanks for any help!

Get a car fax report and call Infiniti USA with the VIN number to get all of the car's info (warranty, options, ...)

That's not going to change any time soon either. Just isn't the demand for this car. UpRev in Austin is the only shop I know of personally that has been able to crack the ECU as well.

Welcome and hope your purchase goes smoothly

If you're into doing performance mods on a vehicle and are looking for lots of goodies to put on a car to up its HP and lower its quarter mile times, then this is NOT the car for you. Suggest you piick up a Chev Impala SS, or a Ford Crown Vic as they will be a lot easier to mod. That is unless you've got very deep pockets and are going to have everything custom made.

While I appreciate the recommendations, I do not feel that the Chevy impala SS and ford crown vic can be put into the same league as the M45. I understand there is not a large demand for modding this car and I have already indicated that I am not interested in doing heavy mods to the car. I was only inquiring what mods can be done to improve the 1/4 mile times by a second or less. I am uncertain how effective the CAI and exhaust upgrades are on this car to improve it's performance. That was more my question than what car do you recommend for easy modding.

You should know that the passenger seat has limited adjustment....and is pretty much uncomfortable for everyone in any sort of long drive. This was fixed in the 2007 and later models.

It's not a show stopper, but it's the biggest "problem" with any of the 06 M's.

I have a 06 M45 and my passenger seat has full power controls. You think I have a late model 06 that they changed?

The main problem I have with my M45 sport is the HORRIBLE bass. I mean, playing thru ipod or cd or dvd sounds pretty good if you are not listening to any song with droning bass. But if you listen to any type of music with bass, the sound is so bad its truly painful to listen to.

Is there a easy/cheap (ish) fix for this? Can i just swap the subs?

Other than that, this is the best car I have ever owned, and I have owned a pretty good list:

2000 BMW 328i, 2003 528i, 2005 BMW X5, 2006 MB 320, 2000 Audi A6 4.2, 2008 Porsche Cayenne (oh and for like 3 months I tried to do the smart thing with a 2006 honda accord daily driver, but that didn't last long! )

This is one incredible car!

Forgot my 2003 745i (my dream car for awhile there)

I almost bought a 2006 750Li instead of this M... but I wanted more sport and not so much large luxury. Haven't looked back since!
