Will be doing a head gasket repair.
I Plan on taking head into shop for resurfacing/checking it over

What else should i have them look into doing that wont be excessively expensive for a NA KA24de engine.

Car is a HPDE car, so reliability is #1, and any power improvements #2, but also don't want to spend too much.

Here's there price list:

I would consider the most restrictive rules of any potential automotive groups I'm interested in and use those as a guide. For me, I hope to one day be part of the Improved Touring group (B or S, I forget) with the SCCA. There's lot's of common modifications that simply aren't allowed in that class, so I don't do those types of mods. I think I can have my ports cleaned up, but not enlarged. I'm not allowed titanium bits, just factory materials and springs. I can get a three angle valve job, but that happens to be factory anyway!

So, resurface, blueprinted, Valve matching, and if you don't have any rules to follow, maybe enlarge or round off the ports to match your intake and exhaust piping. Are you replacing everything or just as needed? Maybe let them do the disassemble and inspection and get an recommendation from the shop. New valves and guides would be things for them to install. Cams, retainers, and springs might be good for them to install and measure, but maybe you do this at home if you have the tools.

What are you planning to have done? What are you planning to do yourself?

Yeah, i get the rules thing. I have a miata i built for autocross by the class rules.

I dont care for doing that with the 240, just non competitive open track hdpe days.

The shop is 2 hours away, I just plan on bringing them the head and dropping it off for days/weeks it takes.

resurfacing, pressure check, bead blasting. I think for sure i'd like them to do port/gasket matching.

I guess i'll see how much it will be to make it "like new" and then see what how much budget is left for "better than new"

But this is first time for me, before this endeavor i was only really familiar with what a port and polish was.
