I just picked up the SE-R wheels and I am looking at some Conti DWS's in 235/35/18...The difference is -7% compared to the stock 215/55/17's. I have read that I should be staying around -3%, but I found a really good deal on a brand new set.
So what are the drawbacks to running something this different? I know all that stuff about the OD being off and the Speedo being off, but what about braking? Will I see any issues there? Will these pit any more stress on the engine...I don't know? Any ideas on what i should expect?

I think you will accelerate faster and put less stress on your engine. But that's just based on my limited common sense. Just seems to me that the rotational force being closer to the inner axis would mean less work for the car.

i wouldnt, thats a pretty big difference. It will really throw off the speedo, mpg will go down, etc :/... Best to look for another deal, they always come up imo!

Massive wheel gap. Unless you're planning to drop it to the ground on coils, i'd pass.

Well you'll never get caught speeding because you're speedo will always be optimistic. If you want it to look nice without lowering, you'd need more sidewall. 235/45R18 would be the exact same as 215/55R17 in terms of filling the wheel gap up, but if you're not looking to have to buy more ties, then I'd say keep searching.

BTW, I took the liberty of showing you just what the problem would be.

I am going to be buying the eibach springs when I buy new tires, So wheel gap is not my number one consern. I just didn't know the. Negative effects these tires would have on the car...Thanks for the info. My wheels are coming with some old 245/45's on them I will have to try them on to see if I want something a with a little less sidewall.
