Hello all! I'm new to the club and am planning on buying a 1990, n/a 300zx when I turn 18 in November. I'm wondering what sort of maintenance I can expect to perform right off the bat and what I should be looking to pay. Here's some details about the car. I recently regained contact with my grandpa after about 10 years and when cleaning out a warehouse of his I discovered the car. Exterior looks pretty good but there are a few spots where I believe the clear coat needs some touch up. A badge is also missing, no big deal. Interior is clean but a little dirty. The carpets are trashed however and the driver seat has a tear in it. Now onto something I still can't believe myself, it's only got 59,000 miles. It's been in the warehouse about 10 years now so low mileage but the tires are flat spotted and I'm sure performance will have taken a hit. I've already talked to my grandpa about buying it from him and he's extremely happy I'm interested in it and willing to sell as he's wheel chair bound and terminally Ill . He's offered it for free but I don't want to take and take like the rest of my cousins so I'm wondering, what would be a fair price for me to pay for it and how much should I plan on spending getting it running like it did 10 years ago. My plans with it are to restore it as close to stock as I can, then suspension and what little power upgrades I can perform to make a DD/ track car. thanks for your time, and answers in advance.

Welcome to Nico!
Interesting situation you have here, I'll start by saying that you will need to spend probably $2-3K on maintenance and repairs on a Z that's at that long, and possibly the same doing upgrades to the car to be in the range you spoke of. This costing reflects having the work done (labor), so any work you can do will stretch your budget. Therefore until you assess your needs with the car, I'd go for taking your grandpa's offer and maybe paying him some $ if the Z plays nice (not likely after 10 years sitting) and doesn't need much repairs beyond the 120K maintenance and other things such as the injectors and harness.
There are several good vendors for our car that carry a broad range of parts such as Concept Z Performance and Z-1 Motorsports, and many others that can be googled or are vendors on this site such as Powertrix and Wiring Specialties and Interior Innovations.
Be sure to read the stickies at the top of the Z32 page as it does contain a very broad range of info towards your interests that can be accessed any time- Everything You Need To Know About The Z32 is a must read. Be sure to save the Online Service manual in the stickies, it's a life saver for repairs.
Good Luck, and post her up when you get her going! :bigthumb:
