I having trouble deciding what to drop into my s13. I am pretty set on these 2 engines the VQ35HR or the VK45DD.

your decision should be determined by:

Price for engineamount of fabrication needed for the drop mods available for the engine(turbo, cold air, ect.)power and ability to hold powerRPMsreliabilityand finally weight

I AM prepared for the fabrication.

also if anybody knows a site where I can buy one of these engines(VQ35HR/VK45DD) with ecu(ready to be re/programed) could you plese tell me.

here are some links with info:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_VK_ ... _VQ_engine

I'm not trying to be a d!ck but I choose niether because by the time you put it in you will have paid for a good piece of their donor cars. Instead of the VQ why not the NA VG because it's cheaper and it's been done. The V8 has been done but either motor has little to no aftermarket support aside of snazzy oil filler caps and CAI. I take that back you can score a turbo kit for the VQ for 6 grand but I doubt it will fit in an S13. It would be one thing if you had the motor laying around or could get a silly deal on one but other that that you might get less than satisfactory results. Just my .02

I did some checking and AVG price is

$1000 for the Z32 VG30$3200 for the VQ$4200 for the VK

Price wise out of your choices the VQ is bestAvailability wise the VQ is best choice of your choicesThey are both going to suck for fabrication but the VK will be worse. If you want a V8 go with the VH because it's been done and the motor is readily available having been made for a number of years.

The rev range on the V8 will most likely suck but have more power down low. I have only seen one nissan V8 turbo'd in an S-chassis but it was The VH45. The VK was made for and SUV so count on more fabrication with that. All will most likely need custom driveshaft. bigger fuel pump having more dispacement.

If you are trying this for more power don't do it. Stay on the beaten path. If you want it to be different then we'll all be here for your support but we won't be able to offer as much help with the problems that you'll undoubtably run into that are common with any mainstream swap. Mainly because these sound like some Mongolian swaps.

As far as holding power.... These are both non turbo blocks(if you go that route) the VQ's will hold 600HP if they have a fully built and balanced bottom end with tuning out the ying yang. but I've never seen serious VK or VH tuning. Mostly because they come in big *** luxury sedans and SUV's rather than little sport coupes. So getting any power from the VQ will be really pricey. The Turbocharger kit alone costs +5 grand. That doesn't include the built engine. then consider EMS and how you're gonna get the power to the ground. You would have to make a turbo kit for the V8. If you can weld plan on investing a lot of your time and if you cant plan on investing alot of your money. If you can make a turbo kit you cant run that much boost because your mottom end is a non turbo bottom end. And if you want to upgrade the bottom end good luck to you sir... maybe you can get some custom forged pistons made but rods.....

As far as weight the VQ is a heavy V6 and the VK is a heavy V8. both heavier than the 240sx was designed for

The VG30DETT is a good swap imo I'm going to start one next summer. It has been done with a single turbo but not with the twins as far as I know(they cause clearance issues).
