If it has rear disc brakes, it's an SE. GXEs have drums in the back.

Any engine swap is going to be extremely expensive, even swapping to a VE30DE which came in the car from the factory.

Manual transmission swap is worthwhile as the automatic probably won't last as long as the motor anyway. If you already have a 5-speed, there's no need to swap. Nothing to swap to anyway.

For struts, I'd recommend checking out Tokico.

Yeah It has an automatic in it. I'm getting it from a family members friend for 300 dollars. It just need brake work and rear struts and a paint job. But I think primer black will do until I decide on a color.

But yeah..would it be cheaper to buy and swap the transmission myself? or go to a tanny shop that sells and installs them?

I'm a newbie to all of this.

Actually it was possible to order GXE's with rear discs. My '94 had that option But yes, the automatics on the the 3rd gens were garbage after 100k. A rebuild will just be a waste of money as it will never be as telepathic as original. Swap out for a 5sp and enjoy the last true 4DSC Nissan produced
