I have a blown KA24DE with T25, FMIC, BOV, 3inch exhaust

I have 3 choices

1) Replace KA24DE 2) Rebuild KA24DE3) Buy SR20

If I replace the KA, it would be the cheapest way to go, but the least power and for 3 months I've yet to find a KA thats suitable in my area. But, if I do, all I have to do is switch the block.

If i rebuild it, I will be spending at least 1200 bucks in parts alone, not counting labor, which I couldnt do due to lack of experience and tools, time.

If I get the SR, I will have the same kind of power I had with the KA, but this costs the most. This will be the hardest one of all to do, BUT I can sell back my KA turbo components and put this replacement in the middle of my budget field. The only problem with that is time, and labor.

I need your opinion of what I can do, the motor doesnt start, and all I know is, when I decided to check what the clanking noise was, the oil was gone. I know, what a noobie mistake not to check the oil, but it was one of those things I completely forgot about doing the weekend before.

I talked to my uncle, and he says that running on no oil, led to my rod bearings breaking making my #1 piston loose, and thats what was giving me my "change in a dryer" clanking noise. (I know it wasnt timing guide because I removed it) And, when I put some oil in it, and tried to drive to the shop not even a mile down the road, it died completely and I coasted in. Now it wont start at all.

Please help! It busted October 28, 2006 and its now January 10th!!!! ITS KILLING ME! Im the only senior without a car, and I had the fastest one in theparking lot! The closest thing was a '04 Mustang GT and I owned it.

Thanks in advance

I feel your pain brother. I tossed a rod right through the block. So I couldn't even rebuild it. Mine is still sitting...sniffs.

KA's are getting harder to find. There aren't any in the junkyards here in Tucson. I'd do this, get a quote from a shop for a rebuild with decent internals, then compoare that with a shop doing an SR swap for you. Both are great motors, but a built KA will be better then a stock SR.

I got 2 ka24de engines that are in good condition. Central FL one has unknown mileage. Started it up 3 days ago and it sounds good as in in no noise lol, and doesn't smoke any. Had to replace the front crank seal after starting it the first time, So that's one less thing to worr about, Other engine came out of car with 108k on it, car got t-boned.
