I have a KA-E sittin in my boyfriend's car port (was yanked b/c it refused to pump oil). I've been constantly changing my mind about what to do with my car...first I wanted KA-T, then I wanted a CA, and now I'm wantin a turbo KA again... my question is should I do a rebuild on the SOHC and turbo it, or find a dual and build that? I'm a little bit more fonder of the DOHC (had one in my old hatch). I found it easier to work on and slightly more attractive...but you don't see as many people doin anything with a single, and I already have one available to me (actually two counting the blown one my boyfriend has...and the one in my car I could use as a back-up...)

Just wantin some suggestions, maybe the ups and downs of each (since yall are professionals... ) Thanks!

Personally I think it depends on what your goals are. If you are looking for anything under 400 rwhp, the -E engine should be just fine. There are lots of well built, solid KAEs putting out good power, there is no reason to swap at this level imo unless you have a real problem with the single cam.

If you are looking for more power than that, I would probably go with the DE. Not that the -E couldnt do it, it probably could-- just I personally havnt seen any huge power single cam KA-Ts out there.

IMO I think you should install a SR. If you ever want to sell the car it will be a lot easier to sell a SR vers SOHC. Right now all the kids want SR motors. Granted the KAT is getting more popular but bottom line there are more kids interested in SR motors then KA.

I like my E-T and it would be less expensive for you

I don't plan on selling the car, and I don't want an SR unless someone hands me one for free.

I would stick with the SOHC for a matter of affordability. Build it, boost it, blow it up. Do it all over again. The torque would be a lot nicer than a 1.8 that would feel like VTEC. Give me more motor!
